It's sad that the same people we voted into a democratic system of government has become monsters of themselves. Democratic government is being ruled as authoritarian government in disguise, anyone in power comes up and make a decree to suit their convenience without considering the consequence others will suffer because of their decision. A Few days ago twitter was banned for Nigerians, the decision did not pass through a consensus as a bill debated on the Senate but someone in power who believes Twitter is harmful for himself and the government. We had assumed we voted people who were educated and should brainstorm over sensitive matters before a decision is taken, but no, just a government who has nothing to offer yet shutting down the little means its citizen is making from.
At first it was the ban of cryptocurrency because crypto transaction has no tax the government pulled from it and now its twitter from which many people make a living via advert, blogging and cryptocurrency. From estimated statistic, Nigeria has lost over 7.2 billion in the space of 3 days, a huge lost for a country in debt. The ban has negative impact in our economy, citizens, and the possibility for foreign investors to be confident making a deal with the country in fear of lost due to their instability.

Unfortunately twitter evangelizing for hive by Nigerians has been put to stop. A handicap to Nigerian hivers to do more. The same people we voted into power has become authoritative and mute our freedom of speech. Politics in Nigeria is gradually dipping into crypto and ruining what people have built for years. I fear the future if we continue to have a bizarre of leaders as this who are so stunted to diversification of opportunities and growth.
Liberty is far from a one sided decision if the government or people in power makes law that affects billions of people but convenient just a fracture from the population. Nigerians are grieved from the twitter ban but powerlessness because the words of the citizen is not considered and will make no effect. This are the government monsters we've made but someday we believe there'll be a reform.
