Elon fire-back strategy to the launching of Threads, other than threatening to sue and the proposed fight with Zuck, is actually one that is quite popular in the decentralized space and certainly one that every Hiver can relate with, and that is the incentivization of content creators on Twitter. It's all still very murky as no one knows exactly how it is calculated on Twitter, but the PR has been very well received.
The shared revenue system is something you'd expect of all the major social platforms which generate revenue off their users, either through adds or downright selling our data. For most of them we get nothing in return, and some of those platforms are even condescending enough to make it seem like they're doing us a favor by giving us the 'priviledge' of using their platforms. I could throw a tantrum but this is capitalism, so no one is actually forced to make use of these platforms if they do not provide the expected utility.
Yet how do you convince people they should be getting a better deal when there's so much ideological warfare going on these days. The simple answer is that we can't, and the best way to tell people they could do better is actually show people doing better. It was important to highlight those payouts so people will ask themselves the simple question from alternative platforms they might be using - 'what's in it for me'?
I also say there is a lot more motivation to prioritize value and respect when something of value is involved. I find YouTube to be a far less Toxic place than any of the major media platforms which I attribute to the desire to become incentivized by creators. We also have more contents of value to us when there is an incentive to do so. Sharing also offers a sense of ownership to users of the platform which is very important in keeping people loyal and dedicated.
These mainstream media platforms are not oblivious to this, and some form of shared revenue system will likely have done for good than damage. Yet there has been little desire to incorporate this strategy for some of them from day one. I like how the shared revenue system is becoming more popular as it should get users to think critically and perhaps seek out platforms which could really serve their interest.
Conclusion
It is funny because we're talking about something the crypto space imbibed from day one. Hive has even gone a step further by offering everyone the chance of shared ownership. Eventually we'll have to figure out what we truly want.
