All countries have particular characteristics that reaffirm their idiosyncrasies, but Cuba has distinctive features that classify it as a Meme-Society. The term meme is usually used on social networks as an object of mockery. Still, in reality, they are images, or representations of situations that although annoying or grotesque reflect an indisputable truth. That relationship of what fact reflects and what should be, in complete contradiction, these elements are the genuine essence that grounds the Meme.
Taking ideas reflected in the debate present on the BITLIGION Podcast by @JuanSolanaMart1 a meme is a representation of:
- A thought of smuggling.
- Annoying situation but that reflects an irrefutable reality.
- Contradiction, irony, and sarcasm
One of the first learnings that Cubans undergo in the bosom of our families is to assume Cuban humor, that in which we laugh about problems and life. Our humor is based on contradictions, many of which are very particular and unimaginable in many places around the world.
As an illustrative example, I will take a recent article by the press outlet Cubadebate entitled: What is a university degree good for in the Cuba of 2023? where one of the viral meme images of the last few days is addressed. This one shows a certificate, presumably from a university in the trash.

And it reflects one of the many incomprehensible situations in other latitudes, but it has a multifactorial significance. The biggest is the presence of a dystopian economy in a silent war.
The clerk of any cafeteria can be a prominent university professor Doctor of Science and Full Professor or be one of the main researchers who participated in creating a recent drug with a high impact on health. This is an irrefutable, tangible, and painful reality. These are the things that happen when the economic benefit in the professional sector is not enough to cover basic needs, driving emigration to the non-state sector that follows the rules of the market and receives better salaries or benefits. This type of situation gives rise to both haters and those who love and build. I classify myself on the side of those who love and build #TheZurdaTeam, these are moments of solutions and teaching to fish not of giving fish.
One cannot analyze these situations well without analyzing the context. Cuba lives under an iron economic blockade, which impacts its citizens more than the government. Ordinary citizens live under constant limitations with a double blockade due to inefficiency, limitations, and absurd rules that do not free up our capacities to produce. With the opening of internet access, ordinary Cubans mortals constantly collide with the aforementioned blockade, it is enough to use platforms such as Binance and others to come across messages that make it clear that you are declared persona non grata. Luckily #HIVE, #Bitcoin, and VPNs are able to restore our dignity as citizens of the world on the internet.

I am one of those professionals who after fulfilling my social duty I find myself in the need to look for other activities to get closer to covering the basic needs of my family nucleus. Unfortunately, my additional income is often doubled by the official ones, with much less responsibility and impact. There are convulsive times, almost apocalyptic postpandemia, and where the old recipes no longer work.
If I have learned anything from HIVE and Bitcoin, it is that true democracy and social organization are achieved with full decentralization. That the basic element of development are the individuals and the communes in which they develop and that true realization will be achieved when autonomous and circular economies become a reality and not a mere theory. Therefore it is time to educate and give the half-orange and half-red pill to everyone, especially those who now have decision-making prerogatives, and teach them how to jump the bars and live outside the matrix in what should be the new world.
Cuba is going through profound changes, adapted to others being the ones who decide, times are coming when the decisions of the citizens have more and more weight. In addition, the management of personal and institutional finances is bound to evolve or perish. Knowledge is power and financial education is a necessary power in this context.
Much has been said about evolving the Governance in Cuba to a model based on the Application of Science and Innovation, that served as a title and doctoral subject to the current president of Cuba. I would dare to go a little further to what I call a "Government Based on Technology, the Application of Science and Innovation".
It would seem that I have left the topic that gives title to this post, but I assure you that I have not. Take any Cuban context and you will find a Meme situation, a contradictory, mocking but irrefutably real situation, and it will always have its origin and explanation in economic shortages.
The growing campaign of LeoFinace to bring culture and knowledge about finance to the masses is an interesting and very useful project for #Cuba. Teaching better ways to protect the acquired values, internationalize them, and manage them outside the traditional pattern is vital for a new evolution of the global economy, starting with the local ones. Todos los pa铆ses tienen sus caracter铆sticas particulares que reafirman su idiosincrasia, pero Cuba posee rasgos distintivos que la clasifican a mi criterio como una Meme-Sociedad. El t茅rmino Meme por lo general se usa en las redes sociales como objeto de burla, pero en realidad son im谩genes, o representaciones de situaciones que aunque molestas o grotescas reflejan una verdad indiscutible. Esa relaci贸n de lo que la realidad refleja y lo que deber铆a ser, en completa contradicci贸n, estos elementos son la esencia genuina que fundamenta el Meme.
Tomando ideas reflejadas en el debate presente en el Podcast de BITLIGION por @JuanSolanaMart1 un Meme es una representaci贸n de:
- Un pensamiento de contrabando.
- Situaci贸n molesta pero que refleja una realidad irrefutable.
- Contradicci贸n, iron铆a y sarcasmo
Uno de los primeros aprendizajes a los que nos sometemos los cubanos en el seno de nuestras familias es a asumir el humor cubano, ese en que nos re铆mos de los problemas y de la vida. Nuestro humor se basa en las contradicciones, muchas de las cuales son muy particulares e inimaginables en muchos lugares del mundo.
Como ejemplo ilustrativo tomar茅 un art铆culo reciente del medio de prensa Cubadebate titulado: 驴Para qu茅 sirve en la Cuba del 2023 un t铆tulo universitario? donde se aborda una de las im谩genes memes virales de los 煤ltimos d铆as. En esta se muestra un certificado, presuntamente universitario en la basura.

Y es que refleja una de las tantas situaciones incomprensibles en otras latitudes, pero que tiene una trascendencia multifactorial. La mayor es la presencia de una econom铆a dist贸pica en una guerra silenciosa.
El dependiente de cualquier cafeter铆a puede ser un destacado profesor universitario Doctor en Ciencias y Profesor Titular o ser uno de los investigadores principales que particip贸 en crear un reciente medicamento de alto impacto en la salud. Esta es una realidad irrefutable, tangible y dolorosa. Son las cosas que ocurren cuando el beneficio econ贸mico en el sector profesional no es suficiente para cubrir las necesidades b谩sicas, impulsando la emigraci贸n al sector no estatal que sigue las reglas del mercado y recibe mejores salarios o beneficios. Este tipo de situaciones da pie tanto a odiadores como a los que aman y construyen. Me autoclasifico en el bando de los que aman y construyen #TheZurdaTeam, son momentos de soluciones y ense帽ar a pescar no de dar pescado.
No se puede analizar bien estas situaciones sin analizar el contexto. Cuba vive sometida a un f茅rreo bloqueo econ贸mico, que impacta m谩s a sus ciudadanos que al gobierno. Los ciudadanos de a pie vivimos bajo constantes limitaciones con un bloqueo duplicado por la ineficiencia, limitaciones y reglas absurdas que no liberan nuestras capacidades de producir. Con la apertura del acceso a internet los simples mortales cubanos chocamos constantemente con el dichoso bloqueo, basta necesitar usar plataformas como Binance y otras para toparse con mensajes que dejan en claro que eres declarado persona no grata. Por suerte #HIVE, #Bitcoin y las VPN son capaces de devolvernos la dignidad como ciudadanos del mundo en internet.

Soy uno de esos profesionales que luego de cumplir mi deber social me veo en la necesidad de buscar otras actividades para lograr acercarme a cubrir las necesidades b谩sicas de mi n煤cleo familiar. Lastimosamente mis ingresos adicionales muchas veces duplican los oficiales, con mucho menos responsabilidad e impacto. Se viven tiempos convulsos, postpandemia casi apocal铆ptica y donde las recetas de antes ya no funcionan.
Si algo he aprendido de HIVE y Bitcoin es que la verdadera democracia y organizaci贸n social se alcanza con la plena descentralizaci贸n. Que el elemento base del desarrollo son los individuos y las comunas en que se desarrollan y que la verdadera realizaci贸n se alcanzar谩 cuando las econom铆as aut贸nomas y circulares sean una realidad y no una mera teor铆a. Por tanto toca educar y entregarle la p铆ldora mitad naranja y otra mitad roja a todos, en especial a los que ahora tienen prerrogativas de decisi贸n y ense帽arles a como saltar las rejas y vivir fuera de la matrix en lo que debe ser el nuevo mundo.
Cuba vive cambios profundos, adaptados a que otros sean los que decidan, llegan tiempos donde las decisiones de los ciudadanos cada vez tiene mayor peso. Adem谩s el manejo de las finanzas en lo personal e institucional est谩 obligado a evolucionar o perecer. El conocimiento es poder y la educaci贸n financiera es un poder necesario en este contexto.
Mucho se ha hablado de evolucionar la Gesti贸n de Gobierno en Cuba a un modelo basado en la Aplicaci贸n de la Ciencia e Innovaci贸n, t铆tulo que sirvi贸 de t铆tulo y tema de doctorado al actual presidente de Cuba. Yo me atrever铆a a ir un poco m谩s all谩 a lo que denomino en un Gobierno Basado en la Tecnolog铆a, la Aplicaci贸n de la Ciencia e Innovaci贸n.
Parecer铆a que me he ido del tema que da t铆tulo a este post, pero le aseguro que no. Tome cualquier contexto cubano y encontrar谩 una situaci贸n de Meme, una situaci贸n contradictoria, burlona pero irrefutablemente real, y siempre tendr谩 su origen y explicaci贸n en carencias econ贸micas.
La creciente campa帽a de LeoFinace de llevar la cultura y conocimiento sobre las finanzas a las masas, es un proyecto interesante y de mucha utilidad para #Cuba. Ense帽ar mejores maneras de resguardar los valores adquiridos, internacionalizarlos y manejarlos fuera del patr贸n tradicional es vital para nueva evoluci贸n de la econom铆a global empezando por las locales.
