Before continuing with the presentation of my collection, a reflection about collecting in general and philately in particular.
A hobby or entertainment for someone with free time, it constitutes a stimulating occupation, with a touch of competition, it gives the busy professional pleasure in a recreational change.
For scholars, an inexhaustible field for profitable research, for adults, the sociability of a popular activity, although not so popular, among the elderly and some young people. A hobby full of novelties that also harmonizes with school studies in subjects such as history and geography. For those who want to make money, an opportunity for occasional speculation and for everyone, a satisfactory combination of safe investment and pleasant study, as long as it is handled with knowledge, astuteness, without being dazzled by suspicious offers.
Forgeries and even invented stamps from non-existent countries are not uncommon with which to defraud the naive.
Today I present to you various motifs that include winged beings, but not airplanes closely related to airmail, which I will dedicate another chapter to.
[Angels announcing the birth of Jesus to the shepherds. Spain, Christmas 1972]
[Swallows that announce summer to Europe and are the reason for airmail in two different countries]
[Fauna, like flora, are frequent motifs on stamps and here we have an imperial eagle accompanied by a wolf and a genet, a little-known feline that lives in the Iberian Peninsula]
[Fine representatives of the fauna: A sable from Czechoslovakia, the Spanish Pyrenean goat, a deer from Hungary, the boa constrictor that in Venezuela they call tragavenado and a Spanish songbird]
I will try to show the most attractive, leaving for last the faces of rulers and political personalities, which are part of history, but are mostly unattractive. First I will include writers, inventors, singers and popular or not popular characters, maps, planets, traditional costumes, military uniforms and hundreds of topics. Even stamps from disappeared countries like Yugoslavia or once divided like Germany.
Banner related to another of my hobbies, making soap at home.
Thanks for your visit.
