If you have been on Leo threads since not too long ago, you will understand why it is capable of becoming the next big thing on hive. Most important, we have been talking about mass adoption of cryptocurrency globally - but I want to settle for Africa. Threads is capable of driving mass adoption of cryptocurrency in Africa and beyond.
This is supposed to be a longer article, but I might eventually end up making a series and publishing them in bits. Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology has the potential of ending economic inequality in financially disadvantaged areas of the world - like Africa. But then, we need a bridge, a connection that will make this very much possible. I believe that threads is that sort of connection that is badly lacking in the crypto space. Consider why I strongly believe that only a bridge or so many bridges like Threads will make things happen:
Threads could drive mass adoption in 3 ways
- Threads is similar to something people know - Twitter: So how do you explain crypto to an ordinary uneducated youth walking on an Africa street. Well, if start like most people do by talking about bear market, bull market, volatility, etc, chances are that the discussion will end really fast without you achieving your goal. But then, the best way to communicate something considered risky is to speak to the language of the people. 8 out of 10 young Africans with a smartphone is using at least one social media platform. Twitter is high on the least. So start from something known and easy. A question like: Are you on Twitter? or Have you heard about Twitter? might be all you will ever need to succeed at the end of the day.
Twitter is popular here and many young Africans that own smartphones are on Twitter. But they do not know much about crypto. So letting them know that threads is just like Twitter will make them feel at home, knowing they have not come to join something entirely out of the blue. Now if they had fun on Twitter, threads would make sense to them too. But threads is better because it rewards those that will stick around, produce quality short content and engage meaningfully with others. The reward they will possibly get is some electronic money (crypto) that could be converted to local currency eventually. This is what threads is all about. Share short content, have fun, and have an opportunity too to earn some rewards. Joining threads could be the first step a complete outsider in a place somewhere in Africa, would take to kickstart their crypto adoption journey. Some of us started like that.
- Thread is not Technical: Another cool thing beyond being similar to what they already know and use, is that threads is easy. Many aspects of crytpo is technical and so, mass adoption by presenting crypto for what it is would not be possible. But then, starting from a fun aspect of it and dealing with something as easy as snapping and sharing a picture could be the way to approach mass adoption.
The last time I spoke to a group of teachers about crypto, they were all novice to it. One of them even mentioned that he had attended a crypto workshop but regretted because it was full of charts and technical things. Threads is not like that. Threads is easy as Twitter and many or any smartphone users could get involved. Now, only after making use of threads and enjoying the fun for weeks, or possibly even months will we start to talk about crypto in small packages. We can show what Leo is, how to earn it and how to use it. Because such a person is already enjoying Threads which is simple to use, they will like to continue learning. They would believe its possible to learn crypto because they are enjoying threads which they found easy and simple to use.
- Threads is not resource Intensive: Threads is easy once anyone has a smartphone. Happily, In Nigeria for example, many youths have smartphones. They already use data too. So to join threads, they are not spending on any special equipment. Places like Africa has many infrastructural challenges such as lack of lack of steady power supply. But because threads does not take much to use it and does not take much time, its possible to become the stepping stone to crypto mass adoption. Users are able to join threads from their mobile devices. The same data, power and time used for doing other things online could be used to do threads.
The resources it takes to make a 300 word article, could be used to do more than 20 threads as an example. So pushing mass adoption of crypto in places with limited resources require a platform that is not resource intensive. Once people in those areas start to use threads without extra expenses, they will also eventually realize that crypto does not take much to join it. And eventually, so long as they are using threads, they have gradually joined the crypto world.
Introduce users to threads if you are in a developing country
Yes, and that is the easiest way to get users to join crypto. Its the best way to drive mass adoption. Once users join threads, they are already interacting with a blockchain. Its a matter of time before they go further, such as by using fiat to buy crypto, interacting with their crypto wallets and even performing a crypto transaction.
Threads is capable of driving mass adoption in Africa and the world as a whole. Its left for us in these regions to use this powerful thing to get people to adopt crypto and blockchain technology.
