As I often write, this post is for the general Hive community, not for the CTP tribe, where CTPX is already well-known, and quite widely used.
What is CTPX? It is a website recently launched by the CTP team (by recently I mean it's less than 2 months old, I believe).
CTPX is:
- a marketing tool
- a reinvented traffic exchange, tied to crypto
- a way to win CTP by using it, which is the token of the CTP tribe on Hive-Engine
- allowing logins with Hive Keychain
CTPX isn't:
- on the blockchain
- doesn't have its own token or tokenomics (yet?)
- not everyone on CTPX may be interested in crypto or at least they promote something else
The gist of what a traffic exchange is is contained in its name. A way to exchange traffic between participants, on the principle "I see your site, you see mine". One can bypass the "I see your site" part by buying traffic. There are other details I won't go into because they aren't very important at the general level.
How do I use CTPX?
Normally, I don't think I'd have time to explore sites on CTPX. But I found a way.
The benefit is that I add views to what I promote, which is my Hive profile (I'll get back to that).
I stopped reading posts unless I want to pay really close attention to details, including images or numbers (like tables).
Instead, I have them read to me on PeakD. While it's not perfect, it is better than diagonal-reading or reading only the headings.
While the post is being read (or the video is playing, if it's a video), I often do two other things, simultaneously: I play some Splinterforge games, and I click the matching image on CTPX. If there's a post a want to interact with, I open it separately to comment. Personally, I prefer comments instead of reviews. Comments can be rewarded, reviews on CTPX not, as far as I know.
Sometimes I do minor mindless transactions on Hive-Engine to fill the time while I listen to the post. Or something else that allows me to listen and pay attention.
Or sometimes I click on CTPX as I watch a movie. Not always, because if I am tired I'd rather not sit in the chair and lie down instead.
Anyway, I hope you get the picture. You can use CTPX while focusing on something else. And remarkably, I still notice when I am interested in something that is promoted, especially if I see it more than a few times.
What to Promote?
My thinking is that you start by adding your profile because you need to add a website. And start exploring. You'll figure out what to promote. And trust me, it doesn't have to be what everyone else is promoting.
Personally, I've stuck to promoting my CTPTalk profile for a couple of reasons:
- most people on CTPX at least know of if not use CTPTalk as well
- CTPTalk interface is displayed well in iframes, while some other Hive interfaces break out
- when promoting the profile, I don't have to update the page to promote when I write new blog posts, which is daily in my case (on the other side, promoting individual posts makes them more prominent, so that's a good strategy)
- promoting your profile can get you new followers
Final Words
Overall, this is a product anyone on Hive can use to promote their work. It doesn't take much time if you do it simultaneously with something else (or if you buy your traffic). And remember, you can win CTP every hour, 24 hours per day if you explore (for which you receive lottery tickets).
