In my last article, I talked about the "The BEAST Of LEOFinance", Initiative 10 and how important comments and the overall engagement is for growth and how it strengthens the community in various ways. Recently, we have seen multiple topics about this phenomena and it has definitely started to generate a 'buzz' on LEOFinance. People have stepped up and they comment left and right. This would not have been possible without manual curation.
This time, we'll dive into my personal results from the past 4 days.
Due to a rather skewed and hectic work schedule at the moment, I can't make promises like this, but I can definitely promise you, and everyone else, that I will comment as much as possible.
I have always been vocal about the importance of engagement so I was obviously eager to participate in "Initiative 10" or at least step up my game. I was thrilled to see others talk about engagement as a vital ingredient and how engagement basically functions as support pillars for the entire foundation of the community.
As I have been rather busy and I haven't been able to put in as much time as I wanted to, I didn't expect much, and I couldn't make any promises. I just had to do what I could with the little time I had, and eventually, in the near-ish future I would be able to step up my game. That was my initial plan. I have spent more time than I actually thought I would have at first, but still not as much as I wanted to. That being said, I couldn't expect to see any major results personally, but I knew that I would at least be able to see the overall impact on the community.
- I was wrong, but I was also right at the same time.
Engagement is fun, rewarding and encouraging. Engagement is good for many different things. It's even good for SEO and rankings. It's good for boosting traffic and it is a perfect way to throw ideas and thoughts around. Comments are vital for growth and exposure. Let's take a look at my personal results:
This was the last upvote I got on any of my comments before I started to calculate and write this.
During these past 4 days I have made 84 comments in total. That includes replies I have made on comments on my own articles as well as comments I have made on other authors content. All replies and comments are included.
If we divide those 84 comments with the 4 days since taskmaster's initiative 10 post, that equates to 21 comments per day or 24 hours. That's 21 comments per day for 4 days.
Out of those 84 comments, 57 have been upvoted, (at the time I write this). If my math is correct, (not a savvy mathematician), that is about 67% rewarded comments. This eventually leaves me with a total of 27 comments that did not lead to an upvote, which equates to approximately 33% comments without rewards.
English is not my native tongue, so it takes time to produce content. However, it takes less time to write a comment than to write a post. That's an undeniable fact. If I guesstimate, I would say that it takes me an average of about 2 hours to publish an article, and somewhere between 2-10 minutes for a comment. It obviously depends on the length, but I usually don't leave people a one-sentence comment and I always create the covers I use in my articles etc.
So, let's go with an average of 5 minutes per comment, just to dig a little deeper in the numbers.
- 84 comments x 5 minutes each = 420 minutes.
- 420 minutes / 60 = 7 hours.
- 4 days = 96 hours.
I have spent 7 out of the last 96 hours making comments, even during one of the most hectic periods in my work schedule. Those 7 hours gave me 57 rewarded comments in total. That's ~8.1 minutes per rewarded comment, which is 3.1 minutes longer than I spend writing a comment, on average.
These 57 comments that received a minimum of 1 upvote is worth a total of: 257.22 LEO, which equates to 4.51 LEO per comment. I get to keep 50% of that, which gives me a total of 128.61 LEO or 2.25 LEO per comment.
On top of that, there's still a rather decent chance of having more of these 84 comments in total rewarded as they can be upvoted at any given point until it's paid out. A sweet bonus with this is the exposure we get and that we can grow our audience, which ultimately can/will lead to more upvotes in the future.
While the things stated above was about the actual rewards, let's talk about some other great results. The engagement in itself. We have 128 comments in total on my 6 articles I've published during these 4 days. There are 28 unique individuals, myself included we're up to 29 Lions in total making comments back and forth on my content.
According to onealfa, (NEW NORMAL is here!), he upvoted more than 400 comments in a single day. That is an insane amount of upvotes, but due to Initiative 10, more people have started to follow in their footsteps. To reward comments have started to become more common, so it seems to have become "the new normal" that onealfa talked about..
Definitely not bad for 4 days of work!
