For a few years now, these words have been mentioned in countless studies, newspaper articles, books, and events with the participation of leading specialists.
It is evident that the planet suffers the effects of the emission of gases that causes the so-called greenhouse effect, another set of words that do not represent the true meaning of disaster that implies that an almost invisible layer that causes the earth to warm to the point of changing the climate throughout the planet with immediate effects and also in the long term that we still do not know in depth.
The carbon footprint is simply the measurement of the amount of gases that are emitted into the atmosphere and produce a greenhouse effect.
Since the first inconveniences derived from these emissions were noticed now, various measures have been taken to alleviate the inconvenience, even if that is not enough, simply because not all countries are concerned or committed to the problem and its palliatives, let's not talk about solutions because they simply don't exist.
The UN has mentioned that the number one priority or the most urgent global mission today if you prefer, is to achieve the so-called "carbon neutrality" as soon as possible, which means that each company must commit to offsetting the amount of carbon emitted by its activity. and the products they make and people use on a daily basis.
This compensation is a framework that still carries important theoretical components and long-term projects that imply investments in different areas such as the reduction of emissions through the generation of renewable energy, greater energy efficiency, transport by sustainable means, less consumption of raw materials. and also the naturist aspect where forestation is of vital importance.
A few days ago, an International Technology Seminar organized by the communications multinational Telecom was held in Buenos Aires, where a "carbon neutral" certificate was issued, meaning that the entire carbon footprint generated by the event itself was offset. It had the support and sponsorship of important companies in the sector, including Dell, Cisco, Amazon, IBM, Nokia, NVIDIA, Google, and Huawei, among others.
In the aforementioned seminar, talks and demonstrations were held on the latest trends and challenges in network infrastructure, the incorporation of sustainability, and the digital transformation of the industry in general.
Within this framework, the multinational has left clear signs of its perspective of change and adaptation, from being a purely telecommunications company it will become a technology company, although of course without neglecting its current objective.
There is still a long way to go in terms of the emission and control of damage caused by greenhouse gases, no one doubts that these measures will alleviate the current problems but it is not enough, an absolute commitment is needed from all countries and their populations, also the necessary help for those who, even if they want to, cannot at the moment assume the costs of the necessary investments to adapt to that need.
In this sense, once again, the most developed countries with the greatest economic power must lead the effort and assume that no one can save themselves.
Huella de carbono
Desde unos años a esta parte, estas palabras se han mencionado en innumerables estudios, artículos periodísticos, libros y eventos con la participación de destacados especialistas.
Es evidente que el planeta sufre los efectos de la emisión de gases que provoca el llamado efecto invernadero, otro conjunto de palabras que no representan el verdadero significado de desastre que implica esa capa casi invisible que provoca el recalentamiento de la tierra al punto de ir cambiando el clima en todo el planeta con efectos inmediatos y también a largo plazo que aun no conocemos en profundidad.
La huella de carbono es sencillamente la medición de la cantidad de gases que se emiten hacia la atmósfera y producen efecto invernadero.
Desde que se advirtieran los primeros inconvenientes derivados de esas emisiones hasta ahora se han llevado adelante diversas medidas para paliar el inconveniente aunque eso no alcance, sencillamente porque no todos los países están preocupados ni comprometidos con el problema y sus paliativos, no hablemos de soluciones porque sencillamente no existen.
La ONU ha mencionado que la prioridad número uno o la misión mundial más urgente de la actualidad si lo prefieren es lograr cuanto antes la llamada "neutralidad de carbono", eso significa que cada empresa debe comprometerse a compensar la cantidad de carbono que emite su actividad y los productos que fabrican y las personas utilizan a diario.
Esa compensación es un marco que todavía conlleva importantes componentes teóricos y proyectos de largo plazo que implican inversiones en diferentes rubros como la reducción de emisiones a través de la generación de energía renovable, mayor eficiencia energética, transporte por medios sostenibles, menor consumo de materias primas y también el aspecto naturista donde tiene vital importancia la forestación.
Pocos días atrás se desarrolló en Buenos Aires un Seminario Internacional de Tecnología organizado por la multinacional de las comunicaciones Telecom donde se emitió un certificado de "carbono neutral", es decir que se compensó la totalidad de la huella de carbono generada por el propio evento que contó con el apoyo y patrocinio de importantes empresas del sector entre las que se contaron a Dell, Cisco, Amazon, IBM, Nokia, NVIDIA, Google, y Huawei entre otras.
En el mencionado seminario se desarrollaron charlas y demostraciones sobre las últimas tendencias y desafíos en infraestructura de redes, incorporación de la sustentabilidad y la transformación digital de la industria en general.
En ese marco la multinacional ha dejado claras muestras de su perspectiva de giro y adecuación, de ser una empresa netamente de telecomunicaciones pasará a ser una empresa de tecnología aunque por supuesto sin dejar de lado su actual objetivo.
Todavía queda mucho camino por recorrer en cuanto a la emisión y el control de daños producidos por los gases de efecto invernadero, nadie duda que estas medidas paliarán los problemas actuales pero no alcanza, se necesita un compromiso absoluto de todos los países y de sus poblaciones, también la necesaria ayuda para aquellos que aunque quieran no pueden por el momento asumir los costos de las inversiones necesarias para adecuarse a esa necesidad.
En ese sentido una vez más los países más desarrollados y con mayor poder económico deberán liderar el esfuerzo y asumir que nadie se salva solo.
