THE STREETS — “A journey of how I arrived at the end Case Study”
Why I started this project?
The idea was to design a random UI screen which would integrate the metaverse but as I went on looking for design inspiration from already existing project, website and documentation, I noticed most of the decentralized virtual space online had really bad User interface, and little or no user research was carried out .
yap its actually possible to run a project like that moving at a very fast pace to skip the long research process but I think an in house testing and iteration should have been carried out on some of these products released online it makes it hard for new users to adapt to the technology leading to an endless circle of same users and social media hypers who real don’t know much about this space.
Duration: Including research and designing this project took a week to build.
My role: Product designer, On this project having no collaboration and being the only designer, I had to carryout research, online user survey, User Interface design, Style guide design/branding. basically the work of a typical lead product designer only that I had no one to instruct 🤔
Tool’s: Figma and Photoshop
Project brief: The streets is a is a virtual world built on a Blockchain where creators can create and trade digital assets, own lands, and engage in various social and economic activities.
The idea: creating a virtual space where creators and collectors can preview and lunch collections ranging from game relic's, lands, wearables and have full control over your digital assets.
How I started: I started out with concept development I did not know much about the metaverse at the time so I had to carryout research on gate ways to the metaverse, searching for web3 platforms that functions similar to my idea, for this I made use of google and my journal from last year which I had written extensively on blockchain. Thanks to google I was able to find similar products like, Decentraland, The Sandbox, Gala and Enjin Coin.
The metaverse has the potential to revolutionize our lives in ways we can’t yet imagine
Idea validation: At this stage I was basically trying to find out if there was any use case for this product, if it would be solving a problem or would be integrated into an existing product. I carried out another research this time to find potential users and ask a few questions why, what and how due to how fast I was trying to make this project I made use of already documented research for usability study as this can be done remotely and fast also joining communities of already existing platforms this helped in gathering the data needed.
Good design starts with thorough user research. Without sufficient research, it is impossible to distinguish between a product that merely looks good and one that solves a real user problem — Emily Stevens
With this done I decided to use the concept first approach, here the concept of the project determines the design, this method really made the design process faster and gave an early direction of how the end product would look like.
Style guide: I designed a min style guide using from colors, fonts, icons, and building components which would be used during the HI-fi design process.
Visual design:
Conclusion: This project was a really interesting one for me, learning how the metaverse really operates from the developers point, users view and the designers stand point.
This project is a made up concept and won’t be going into development, basically was made base on my curiosity to merge and build a system on multiple blockchains, yap but this study doesn't display that in details.
Some of the copies used in the design were not created by me. As they are a collection of copies from different source.
At the end I achieved the goal, I designed a platform simple to use by onboarding users to the metaverse space which allows creators to create and it’s users buy and purchase land on the virtual space, which was the main aim to build a multi dimensional platform.
