If you have been visiting threads, you may have heard or read about the goal of Leoverse to create Hive's "Everything App." Whilst it is an ambitious endeavor, it is not impossible to undertake. It may take them years, that's a given. Well, Rome wasn't built in a day, right? It's not like the developers will just type a code or something and voila, it comes out.
Anyhow, one of the things that came about most recently is the opportunity for evergreen long-form contents on the LeoFinance frontend to continue to get monetized beyond the 7-day voting period and that includes the old posts. It is not extending the curation time if that's what you're thinking.
How then?
In the AMA, Khal mentioned that the source of rewards will be from the revenues generated from the ads. Leo Finance allows ads to display on its interface and that of course means the are collecting ad fees. The revenue from those will buyback $LEO which will then be used to reward the evergreen content creators and LEO stakeholders in the form of Leo Power.
Accordingly, there are two reward pools set up from these revenues, each with specific purpose, re:
LeoAds Pool
A percentage (not mentioned how much) from the revenues are allotted to this pool and is meant to reward the Leo Power holders. The bigger LP you have, the more share you will get from this pool. It was mentioned that rewards will be distributed once a month.
Evergreen Pool
Another percentage of the ad revenue specifically set to reward the content creators of evergreen long-form contents which will be sent to their accounts in the form of staked LEO (Leo Power).
Distribution of these will not be done manually, in case that's what you're thinking. Per Khal, they have created smart contracts to do the job. These protocols (LeoAds and Evergreen) are almost ready and will be launched simultaneously (at the same time). When? Soon I heard. But let us wait and see.
View Counters & Projected Ad Rev
It was mentioned that the view counters on long-form posts will roll out soon. It will show how many views a post is getting and the projected ad revenue it generates. You may have guessed that the stats are going to be a determining factor for a post to get a share from the evergreen pool and it is!
It is to note that every article has the potential to earn on the evergreen rewards protocol. But there will be a dust limit to the number of monthly views a post gets. That is to say articles getting views below the dust threshold will not be eligible.
What exactly are evergreen contents?
They are contents that remain relevant and/or applicable no matter how much time passes. The ones that are SEO-optimized or those that rank well on search engines, those that get clicks and views even for years to come. Per Khal's words, "they are those that are written basically to drive traffic."
That means well-research articles on relevant subjects and those that employ the best practices of writing (having a well-thought of title, good image, proper formatting etc). These are those that stay on top of the search ranks and continue to get viewed even with the passage of time.
And since the evergreen protocol of LeoFinance includes the old posts (even those written years ago), we also have the chance to check back on which of our old contents are getting visits and give them edits, to optimize more.
What's in it for me and you?
Our LeoFinance contents, even the old ones, having the potential to earn extra incentives beyond the 7-day voting window is quite exciting. This could be another great opportunity to tap into. Think about having even one article that ranks well on google or other search engines which will keep earning you dollars month after month. That will be a passive income, yes?
That of course requires making certain adjustments and probably a lot more effort on our part - re: writing more relevant subjects, taking time to learn how to optimize our articles for traffic, making keyword research, adding backlinks, improving our post formatting etcetera. To me, that calls for another learning adventure and I'm up for it!
Are you?
I recommend watching the most recent LeoFinance AMA to learn more about this and what else are coming with respect to the UI features.
