It would come to me as common sense, in a proof of stake network, that the more you hold the more you "mine". Well, Hive is not a PoS network, it is a DELEGATED Proof of Stake.
DPoS means that you can hold as little as 10 HP (Hipe Power) but still be elected as a Hive producer. I myself hold a little over 3k HP, which is very little, but because I have many supporters (thank you!) I have managed to get into the top 100 witnesses. So out of curiosity, I went on to check how much Hive Power do the top 20 witnesses hold.
It is an interesting metric to see how invested the witnesses are in the blockchain. Keep in mind this is not the only metric. Some of those witnesses have built many very important tools! Without tools and development Hive would never grow to where it is now! So measuring their own Hive Power is just a fun fact, the trust community pours into them is what really reflects their value.
Witnesses ranked from #1 to #20
What about me
Yeah, I am a small witness. After this quick research, even though the Stake itself does not matter (what matters is the votes you get yourself!), I have realized how far away I am from the top 20. Many of them have over $100k invested on Hive, while I, for now...
| Name | Hive Staked | Account Value |
|---|---|---|
| 3,013.124 HP | $ 1,583.37 |
And I am still placed at #96, there is a long way to go.
I used to power up monthly, but I had an accident, I actually don't know what happened, but my main laptop does not turn on. So I can not buy Hive for some time and will have to save to pay for repairs, or worst case, buy a new one.
It was an interesting research though! What did you think about those numbers? Have you noticed any interesting patterns?
