NBA's Top Shot NFT Reveal and Marketplace takes off - did you get in?

I took the plunge and decided to grab a pack of the NBA Top Shot release. I did up a reveal video to go along. Did anyone else happen to grab any packs?

CryptoKitties? blah.

Talk about hype. I don't think there has been this much hype in the crypto market since the CryptoKitty hoopla came and went. Unlike the CrypotKity fizzle, I think Top Shots are here to stay. Did anyone get in on the CrypotKitty crazy? Anyone's Kitties still alive? Are they breedable? Apparently, it's still going but its reliance on ETH has a bunch of Kitty breeders scratching about the Gas Fees and breeding fees. As of this post, the CryptoKitties Reddit was going strong with complaints, o.4 ETH for a breeding fee - Yikes! That has got to be a mistake.

Apparently not, here kitty, kitty 😸 (side note, there may be a resurgence likely thanks to NBA Top Shots-Gasp!)

NFT's have been on Hive for a few years

However, based on the market activity (Kitty Sales), Ethererum gas prices, I would say you would have been better off dropping that hard cash into Splinterlands. Especially since the game(CryptoKitties) is all about breeding. Whatever, stick with Splinterlands, you'll do much better and have fun at the same time.

As far as NFT's go, CryptoKitties was a nice Tamagotchi-esk experiment. Anyhow, I digressed a little there. I mean it's not like this NFT thing is new to us. We've had had NFT's on Hive for a couple of years already. Thanks to Hive account@aggroed and his team's foresight and vision. I've collected Splinterland Monsters Cards since day one. I hop on and play every now and then and check my Gold's. Splinterlands continues to grow and add access and integration.

Spearhead product

So in comes NBA Top Shot. Huge market landscape already, lots of money and there's no need to warm the market up to the concept of trading cards. They've set up a pretty smooth registration. Any noob could do it and it was easy and straight forward. At this point, registration is closed for now with a waiting list signup. I guess I got lucky. Am I a huge NBA fan...? nope, not really. I am a crypto fan... but I'm starting to warm up to some of the NBA "magic" through player analysis and valuation.

I've found a few sites that allow you to track your holdings. As with most blockchains, all the data is there and available to be queried. Two sites that seem to be good are https://momentranks.com/ and https://evaluate.market/.

You can guess which site I like the best, so far 😁. I had some Eth that I pushed over to my Dapper wallet to make a few purchases. So far I'm in the green.

The reveal

Well, looks like that will have to wait. The upload has been stuck in the 3Speak encoding queue for several hours now. Few leftover issues from their domain move. Should be sorted out soon but not in time for me to add to the post. If it completes any time soon I'll add it to the comments or update the post to include it.

Hopefully you've enjoyed my little indulgence in something not of Hive but still interesting. I think the Top Shots has some staying power and will likely set the stage for more NFT's (Hockey moments maybe?). The technology is there and now the masses are starting to take notice. I think it can only mean good things for NFT's and even spill over into Hive, perhaps.
