Have you ever entered a store or a shop when you needed to get items, only to leave angry because of the vendor's attitude?
I read a humorous comment somewhere that Nigerians are always blowing hot air, and the country's economic situation makes it worse.
Well, I can understand why people are always angry. It's not the best though.
The cashless policy implemented a few months ago made many people see the need to have a bank account. Aside from that, it was tough for Nigerians. It was tough and financially exhausting because we had to pay to withdraw our money.
I calculated. Before the policy was dissolved, Nigerians had to pay 30% of the amount they wished to withdraw from their accounts.
To make matters worse, point-of-sale owners took advantage of the situation and made things harder. The ATMs weren't even dispensing money either.
The Supreme Court-dissolved that policy, but things haven't returned to how they used to be. I hope things will improve soon.
Like everyone else, I was affected by the cashless policy. I couldn't take myself to church on some Sundays, which was unusual for me, and I also didn't have enough money for myself. Imagine how frustrating it is to withdraw N5000 from point-of-sale agents and give them 30% of that money.
Before the cashless policy, we only had to pay 2% of our money to point-of-sale agents to get the cash we needed.
Those are just highlights of things that make Nigerians blow hot, nearly everything in the country isn't friendly.
A few days ago, I left my house to find some items to buy. I had a dish in mind to prepare.
I visited several stores before finding this one. It's a shop where items are sold at wholesale prices.
When I entered, I saw that she was attending to someone but had two other people working for her as well.
I didn't waste time requesting what I wanted, hoping for a response, but what I heard was silence.
.
I asked again, good thing, a girl answered and asked me what I wanted. After telling her, she called her colleague to confirm if they had what I requested.
Unfortunately, they didn't have the one I requested. The owner later told me that theirs was larger. I asked to see it, maybe I should consider buying it.
As soon as one of the girls in the store moved to get it out for me to see, the woman who I believe owned the store snapped at her, telling her not to bring anything. In the same way, she asked if I was going to pay for it, and told her not to bring anything. This attitude was not only rude to me, but it was also disgusting as well.
Is there anything wrong with letting a customer take a look at something from your shop if they came to get something? She looked down on me by asking if I would even pay for it. What does this vendor gain from chasing away customers?
Well, I understand that by discouraging customers from looking at the items in the shop, the vendor hopes to prevent potential theft from occurring. This is an understandable concern, as shoplifting can have a major impact on a business's profits.
However, it was obvious that I wasn't a thief. I just wanted to see the item. I think that by making it difficult for customers to view the item, the vendor is also making it difficult for potential customers to make a purchase decision. This could cause the vendor to lose out on sales, as customers are more likely to buy an item when they have seen it with their own eyes.
The way she expressed herself left me disgusted. She said all she said in a rude manner, which made me angry. I notified her that she didn't even know what I wanted and that attending to a customer like that was inappropriate.
It's funny how that kind of person prays for a successful business yet fails to treat their customers well. How is the business going to be successful if you don't take good care of your customers?
