higher premium for any gold and silver

I don't think the premium is going to drop even if Silver or Gold prices drop. This is why I am conflicted about whether to not to buy some physical right now. Thus my way of compensating is just to invest in mining companies. The gold and silver has to come somewhere but the valuations tend to get hit hard during corrections.
