Recently, the $10,000 Zealy campaign for LeoFinance ended and the rewards have been passed out. So it's the perfect time to reflect on how this campaign went and what I took away from this campaign. It was a fun campaign and it encouraged a lot of people to be active in threads and one of those people was me. Although, I think the main reason why I started threading was that the UI for the long-form content was horrible after they changed the interface.
General Opinion
I think the Zealy campaign was a huge success and it boosted a bunch of new users over to LeoFinance and threads. Threads was a huge engagement machine and it definitely reminded me of the
I saw a bunch of new names over on threads and I also got to know quite a few new people as well. I am a bit frustrated that I didn't see the post about the reward distribution so I didn't get a part of the prize pool, but I did get quite a few NFTs for participating in the campaign and an LEO power delegation for participating.
Was the campaign worth the effort?
I definitely think the campaign was both fun and worth it even if I didn't get a part of the prize pool. Even before the campaign, I was engaging a lot through comments on long-form posts and I enjoy it. So in a way, threads are a new way for me to engage with others without worrying so much about reading long lines of text.
The only thing that I have to say about it is that I only did 1 adventure (the one for the number of threads) and I also participated in the battles, but I don't think it is extremely hard for anyone to get into the prize pool without doing multiple adventures. Just doing daily/weekly quests and threading is not enough. At least it wasn't for this campaign.
Complaints/Rants about what to change
I think the quests were fine so I will focus more on the things that I wouldn't mind changing for the next campaign.
Prize Distribution
First off, I would change how there was conflicting information about how the prize pool would be distributed. This was never finalized until the last week of the campaign and I missed the post they did talking about it. Apparently, they did mention it in the shows but I watch the show on the side while working so it's easy to miss information. Then they also said they mentioned it in Discord but I only visit Discord when there are problems on Hive/LeoFinance. I am not online all the time and I rarely even go through to check through all the mentions. Also, with the changes to the UI, I don't check my feed as often either. I hate the interface for long-form content because it's not chronological, posts get duplicated and there are blocks of posts in time periods not even shown.
It was my misconception that the top 50 would be rewarded and it was caused by what you see above. It was the Zealy leaderboard and this has never changed even after the exact prize pool was changed. Notice the words reward zone there? The screenshot was taken 25 minutes before the campaign ended so this was after the prize distribution was decided.
Throughout the three Lions battle, I mentioned the top 50 a lot and by then, a lot of people should have known about the correct prize distribution and nobody ever corrected me. So I tend to think that there were a lot of people who did not know about the exact distribution of rewards. Unfortunately, I do not have all the time to dedicate to the campaign as I also have work to do during the day.
What I suggest for the next campaign:
- Make sure the Leaderboard has the correct reward zone (after final prizes are decided)
- Make a zero XP quest in Zealy linking to the post so people know that the prize distribution has been finalized
- On the side where it has sprint rewards, link the final prize distribution post there for people to view
Anyone involved with the campaign will check the Zealy quests or leaderboard. By leaving the information here, it is easy for everyone to know the information. I know that they were trying to figure out how to distribute the prize pool fairly but I just think that the leaderboard information being incorrect could easily lead people to think that it was top 50 instead of top 40. Especially so, when the final distribution was decided during the last week of the campaign.
Three Lions Battle
I don't really like this at all. It just felt a little unfair because not everyone was contributing. I did what I could and I even delayed a bit of my work (which I caught up to on the weekend) to participate. In the end, my team got last place by a bit but I just feel that there was too little control for those of us in the campaign. I know we could recruit people but there is only so much that we could do. At least, it felt very unfair at the end of the Zealy campaign with so less time left.
Conclusion
Overall, I would say that the campaign was a success. It brought a lot of attention to LeoFinance and threads. From what I saw about the outreach, the LeoFinance team also has a few other projects they plan on working together with as well. I am disappointed that I didn't get into the prize pool. I definitely have some rants about how that was done as well as how the three Lions battle threw in randomness at the end.
