Between June and August, I have been in Nigeria on three occasions with the recent one when I returned to Benin last week Thursday being the longest I stayed in Lagos, 13 days to be precise. It was against my will to stay that long but thanks to family, they made my stay enjoyable with my sisters spoiling me with food.
Now that I am back in Benin, I miss my sister's food already. The eldest one I stay with does catering, she supplies food for workers at a supper market, so it was easier for her to stuff me up, I even gained a little over 1kg. My younger one also sent her son with food, and on the occasions I visited her there was a meal awaiting me and the same applies to my other elder sister.
So I miss them and the food already but I don't miss Nigeria a bit. There's is always a reason to dislike my country of national more.
A thirsty moment
During all my visits to Nigeria, I have been drinking distilled bottled water, it is either my sisters buy for me or I buy it for myself. It is safer that way since I am changing locations and the tap water might have a bad reaction for my system.
It was a long day, I was heading home from the police station and very thirsty.
There was a woman selling water at the bus station, so I went to her for a bottle of water. I bought the same brand I have been drinking. Upon getting onto the bus I opened the bottle of water and the base round plastic didn't crack to disconnect from the top plastic cover. Normally there should be that crack when a new bottle is opened so my suspicion was raised.
I examined the bottle, had a sip and it tasted different, my examination of the bottle continued with another sip. Perhaps it was my mind playing with me, I had a slightly uncomfortable stomach reaction at that moment. So I told myself when I got off the bus I would buy another bottled water for comparison.
I bought another one as seen above and it confirmed I was sold undistilled water. The water from both bottles tasted different, and the second one I bought gave me a familiar taste while heaven knows where the water from the first one I bought came bottle came from.
It was a very disappointing moment, this is toying with someone's life, and someone's health all for the sake of making money which is what I find very irritating about some Nigerians who are giving us a bad reputation abroad.
Being a Nigerian impacted me negatively at times in South Africa because some are suspicious of us and wouldn't want to deal with Nigerians.
I used to feel it was harsh treatment, but would you blame them?
My experience in Nigeria has been terrible you would think am a foreigner, I just can't stand the country.
