Oh hey guys!
It's been...8 days since my last post. And don't worry, I haven't abandoned ship yet lol But as some of you may know, I was on a mini vacation of sorts back home to Toronto, Canada.
And I use the term vacation loosely, because I was raised in and around the Toronto area and was there until I was about 25 years old. So when I go back home, it's usually to keep up with friends and family. My dad still lives in the Toronto area as well, and as I had a bit of downtime after a month on the road with work, I thought it would be a great time to go to Toronto for a week.
Here's the kicker...My middle son has never met my dad in real life, so that was the main reason I thought a trip was much needed.
But there was another reason, and this is what I wanted the blog post to be about....
Here's a picture that will mean nothing to anyone that sees it, but everyone might be able to relate to it...
First the context....
The guy on the left in the red basketball jersey was having a celebration for his 50th birthday. And when you hit the big 5-0, it's imperative to celebrate it. But he didn't just have a small gathering, with the help of social media he connected with dozens and dozens of people that we all went to high school with and for the first time in over 30 years, a bunch of us were in the same place, at the same time.
These are some guys I grew up with, and then life happens....You get married, you get jobs, you have families, and you go 'full adult'.
But for one weekend in 2025, celebrating a friend of ours....We all got to connect again.
I truly believe it's important to do these things in your life. Because you never know what will happen....
I was emotional after the event because while walking to my car, a friend of mine asked me what I thought about the night....And I said this:
"Bittersweet....Because I don't know if this will ever happen again."
There's always a last time for things, and sure when you are growing up and all together you think that being together will be forever...But again, life happens.
This is why it is so important to have these moments in your life. Cherish them and make the effort to take part as well.
I really couldn't 'afford' a trip to Toronto....But I had to make it happen. First for my kid to meet his granddad, but also for that moment, captured in a picture above that will stay in the minds of each of those guys for the rest of their lives.
This is what matters in life...
