"I heard motherf%$&ers saying they made Hov; made Hov say, 'Okay, so, make another Hov..."
Lost One by Jay-Z
Here's something I haven't done yet in my almost 6 years of being on the blockchain. Sharing some wisdom from I learned from one of the all time best selling rappers in hip hop.
Oh boy.....Yeah, I just quoted a verse by Jay-Z on his song, Lost One. Let me explain the context and then you'll see where I'm going with this...
So this album came out when Jay-Z separated from some of his ex-partners in the music business. They apparently started telling everyone that 'they made Jay-Z, Jay-Z'....
So Mr. Shawn Carter basically says....."O.k., go make another Jay-Z then..."
Basically, his critics can kick rocks!
You see, critics are everywhere these days, especially on social media. Heck, I'm pretty sure I'm a critic of a lot of things out there, and I do use my platforms sometimes to voice my opinions.
But one thing I've learned over the years, it's a lot easier to be a critic, than actually putting in the work and DOING things.
It's easy to point the finger.
Real easy!
But unless you are in the arena getting your butt kicked with the people creating and building....Well, those opinions don't matter. Credit Brene Brown for that quote too ;)
You see, building things is hard. Creating daily and trying to add value is super hard. And sometimes, we don't get it 100% right. There is a lot of trial and error, and a lot of failure along the way.
But that's why only a few are builders while the majority are....Critics.
So the advice from Jay-Z, Brene Brown and heck, from yours truly is...
Keep building.
Keep creating.
And if someone is pointing the finger and saying you aren't doing things the right way, smile. That means you are ruffling some feathers and helping to stir the pot a bit.
Heaven knows, we need some pot stirring every now and again, and it's usually the builders and creators, doing the stirring!
Nothing too in depth tonight, not a super long post either....Just a quick word about how to deal with the critics and actually embrace it when you start getting people pointing the finger at you ;)
Hope you guys have a fantastic weekend, and you keep creating!
