So I decided to burn my 10k DEC'ed Edith Emberstar to purchase a rebellion pack. I also sold some SPT and raised some money from my hive-engine tokens to get about 15k DEC altogether.
I was already holding about 8.5 vouchers, and I couldn't raise any more money, and I didn't want to burn another Gladius card. I have only one gold foil now, and it's a common card. My Edith Emberstar was an epic card so that valued it at 10K.
On the surface, it felt like a terrible decision to burn a gold foil
....but then, I had to look into my assets to flip whatever I felt was surplus to requirement, because it's currently hard to raise money externally to participate in this presale. I feel that choosing one asset over another in the splinterlands ecosystem is always going to be a thing, especially for someone with limited funds, looking to maximize what they have at hand, plus there's no way one can make little gains.
Taking risks is part of the game,
....plus the only external value these cards have is the DEC they come with, so it was good to flip this one to purchase these packs. I don't know what the content of the packs might be like, they might end up not matching their purchase dollar value, this is the reality, but I'm willing to risk that to get the experience of what these Rebellion generation of cards will be like.
I could probably have waited and used the 10k DEC to buy the cards when they were available in the market. This option was also on the table, but I've decided not to do this. I'll see if I've made a wrong decision or not.
So, I bought only 3 packs, and the vouchers I have, I have 2K DEC left, before the end of October, I might have gotten another 3K DEC to purchase one additional pack. I have ruled out any chances of getting any rare gems or drops because I cannot meet the figures. I heard that bonuses were only given from 100 packs upwards.
Unfortunately, this wasn't the case, so I'm not eligible for any airdrops. However, the sales begin on the 5th of December and continue till next year I guess, maybe the market might respond positively enough for me to at least buy some more packs.
From what I gathered, splinterlands INC has raised over $465k in pack purchases, at the moment the sales might have hit over $500k. Quite the revenue for the company to put a lot of things in place.
I feel that the presale comes with a lot of FOMO
Why?
the whales are dipping their hands in the soup and spending thousands of dollars. This is why I feel the regular sale might have reduced patronage.
The rush might soon diminish. But again, to pull in $465k in over 24 hours in sales in the bear market is unbelievable, and it's a testament to the fact that players are counting on splinterlands to repeat that monstrous success/run it achieved in 2021 in this coming bull market.
