The idea of doing your 'due diligence' is a phrase that I find to be often used in Crypto and investment as a whole.
This is partly because it sounds cool to say it and it's also the fact that must be taken into consideration before putting your money on any 'asset'.
I mean, you can easily mistake a liability for an asset if you are not careful. In other words, for you to know what is an asset and what is a liability, it's important to go through the route of doing due diligence.
Even when I was taking Finance classes at Uni, my Financial Management lecture was one to always emphasize the importance of taking your time to do due diligence before putting your money into anything.
Now that I have an opportunity to put a quid or two somewhere, I will be doing my certificate a disservice by just throwing money around without doing some appraisals.
What about you?
Do you do your due diligence?
To be sure that we are on the same page, doing your due diligence involves a sort of research/investigation on a project before deciding to invest in it. This is never compulsory per se, but it's highly recommended except if you are just trying to gamble away your money.
Anything that involves putting money somewhere to earn additional money from it usually comes with a lot of risks. Your ability to identify the risk attached to each potential Investment is very important. This is where due diligence can be very instrumental.
It is a fancy phrase and it's not meant to scare anyone away. You can use what we do in Crypto as an example. It's possible that before you came into Hive, you wanted to know a lot about it before deciding to be a part of it. In some cases, people join and then explore the project from the inside before deciding to dive deeper or pull the plug.
That's basically what doing due diligence entails.
In any investment you will be making from now on, always make it a habit to take your time and do a fair amount of due diligence. It won't be a guarantee that you will hit it big in an investment, but it sure helps in more ways than not.
