Today a new "romance AI" got shared around Twitter called DIGI. You basically make your own lady friend and your talk to her. I tried it out to see what the fuss is and it was pretty basic. Responses were robotic and uninteresting when it actually worked.
For some reason that stoked fear in people. Outcries about dangers and slippery slope arguments that in my mind have no solid basis.
I guess no one wants incels to have a friend.
Those new-tech fears reminded me of Hive and some other things from the past.
There is this tendency to set up various worst case scenarios that will somehow lead to degradation of society.
(TikTok already exists)
Hive was originally built around social media and text storage with monetary rewards for authors/curators and we already have some parts of the community very negatively responding to ChatGPT generated text.
My response to that is that I honestly dont care.
If people like AI text more, I'm fine with it.
If it can engage me, if it can make me laugh, if it can entertain me, why wouldnt I vote it? Why would you downvote it? What is it about you here on Hive that ChatGPT text cannot provide entertainment value to you?
If it can, why do you care? Isnt engaging content the point?
Hex, Tron, Bonk... etc holders probably arent even as human as ChatGPT and theyre good enough for Twitter. So ChatGPT should be good enough for us.
I also used Midjourney a bit. Artists complained that they will lose their jobs. My response to that is... adjust. If people like it more, they like it more.
Once upon a time people drew on paper by hand, now they use computers. Technology advances.
Music, same thing. Once people hit rocks with sticks to make music. Now they plug guitars into wall sockets. Use it as motivation. Become more interesting. Try to understand why people are driven to it.
Video editors complain. Ive used Topaz AI for my videos for the rally car project I'm doing. Stuff like HD to 4k upscale, works wonders. Absolutely brilliant stuff from Topaz AI.
Editors, complaining... adjust. Learn to use these tools to your benefit.
If you go back 200 years to the start of the industrial revolution you will see similar complaints from people. Remember the John Henry legend?
Besides the "THEY TERK ERRR JERRBS!" fears Ive also been given some very odd examples and scenarios and they are all akin to claiming that because a new technology can lead to something bad happening, that something will ultimately become endemic.
You can apply that logic to basically anything.
It doesnt stand imo.
Theres so many more terrible things online for people to see, experience, engage with, get addicted to. Just dont look. Should we restrict the advancement of internet because of it?
Stifle technological advancement? Remove free speech? Ban various tools?
There has been advancement in so many areas over time that people feared or put up different scenarios that are supposed to lead to some kind of societal detriment. We just got used to so many of those things and simply forgot about them.
Remember Edisons marketing campaign against Teslas AC current that was supposed to stoke fear?
The responsible people learned to be smart around new technologies, the irresponsible abused them.
Thus is humanity.
Use your toaster to toast bread. Dont put your penis in it.
