You might think 10k is a lot... BUT Which 10k is it? is it Dollar, Euro, Krona, or something else?
Day 9
What can I get with 10k?
10k IDR fiat currency is less than 1$ (as global comparison). The country has a bank note with 10k denomination and the highest denomination being 100k. So, if you ever visit the country and found 10k in you wallet, know that it's not a lot and probably will only get you a water bottle with some snacks. But, if you are crafty and willing to shop local, here's what you might get with 10k in your wallet.
With my challenge spending 73k IDR, it was quite difficult to meet my needs as normally, that was not the amount I spend in a week. But the other day, I went to the nearby fresh produce store bringing only 15K with me and these are the items I got.
- Regular tofu = 3k
- A carrot = 1 k
- Spring onion = 1 k
- 1/4 eggs (4 pieces) = 5k
You can feed 2-3 person with these items. I ended up making tofu egg soup with low spices. If you are borderline broke- provided you are single, you can eat this twice a day. Tips : Throw in rice or noodle or pasta, you are good to go and won't be starving.
From this challenge, I learned that I prefer my own home-cooked and low season food. Not only that, I realized how cheap it was too cook than to buy. I generally spend more than 40k/day to eat but since I buy these fresh produce, I can spend 10k in a day and often I will have leftovers. However, the only setback of not buying from outside is the time I trade to cook these meal. So, during my busy days this week, I still buy food from outside. Though nowadays, I am learning to organize my time more efficiently so I have time to cook and eat home-cooked meal instead of doing take away food.
