Belarus is an economically small country. Ot represents 0.05% of the world economy. However, in spite of this very small percentage it holds a little known importance.
Of all the potash of the world, Belarus produces 20% of it. Potash is a very important fertilizer for agricultural use. American agriculture needs it. The current sanctions applied to the export of potash from Belarus, are affecting indirectly the US consumer. When the price of potash increases, the crops become more costly and eventually food becomes more expensive.
