The egg prices have increased significantly. Their price has doubled in the past 2 years after remaining relatively stable for about 40 years. The reasons for this are multiple. Supply chain issues, inflation and a bird flu are the most important.
The supply chain issues include the price of transportation which mainly uses diesel fuel. Also, a shortage in labor force has been present.
Inflation is driving the dollar prices of everything. This is particularly noticeable if salaries do not increase at the pace of the inflation rate.
The current bird flu epidemic is causing the death of millions of birds. In addition,, millions of other birds have to culled in order to slow its spread. This limits, for obvious reasons egg production, reducing its supply.
