COP26, also known as The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, was the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference. It was held at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, starting October 31, 2021 and ending on November 13, 2021. COP is an acronym for Conference of the Parties.
The goal of the conference was to make the countries eliminate the use of coal and reduce subsidies to the fossil fuel industry. COP26 ended with a relatively weak resolution that "urges", "requests", and "invites" countries to achieve those goals.
The reason for this was the opposition from developing countries. Reducing the use of fossil fuels would represent a reduction in GDP growth and a reduction of the speed of improvement of standard of living for these countries. The Western countries' goals are rather unrealistic and unfair.
