Today, I would like to share my thoughts on a crypto project that at first seemed like just another meme coin to many, but has gradually turned into a different kind of community-based ecosystem. I am talking about DEGEN and Degen Chain.
Currently, new tokens are being created in the crypto market every day. In particular, the popularity of meme coins has reached such a level that many projects come into discussion and disappear within a few days. But some projects do not just stand on “hype”, but are trying to create their own community and usability. Degen Chain seems to me to be just such an example.
DEGEN originally started as a meme token between the Farcaster and Warpcast communities. But gradually, it was not limited to just a fun token. A Layer 3 blockchain has been created around this token, which is called Degen Chain.
The most interesting thing is that the main focus of this chain is to build an ecosystem centred around fast transactions at low costs and the community. Currently, users often face high gas fees on the Ethereum network. There, Degen Chain provides the facility to make items at very low costs, which can be quite attractive for ordinary users.
I have noticed that the biggest strength of this project is its community. Many blockchain projects only talk about technology, but here, community participation is given special importance. They are trying to keep people involved through various airdrops, meme contests, bounties and user incentives.
I also found the tokenomics of the DEGEN token quite interesting. A large part of the total token has been allocated for the community. That is, from the beginning, they wanted users to become the main part of this project. Currently, many projects see a large part reserved for the team or investors, but here, the community is given more importance.
Another important aspect is the technical structure of Degen Chain. Since it is built on Arbitrum Orbit and Base, it also has the security benefits of Ethereum. At the same time, it is trying to provide fast transactions at low costs. I think it can also create a new opportunity for those who want to create Web3 apps.
DegenSwap, FrogSwap, NFT Launchpad and various meme coin projects have already been created in this ecosystem. That is, it is not limited to just one token, but an entire community-driven network is gradually being created.
However, there is still risk in everything. Because in the crypto world, meme coins and hype-based projects often become popular very quickly and also disappear just as quickly. Therefore, it would not be right to make an investment decision based on the enthusiasm of the community alone. I think the most important thing is to do your own research before joining any project.
What I personally like is that DEGEN is not just a token for “fun”. They are trying to make it usable. Gas fees, app incentives, liquidity mining, and community rewards — these things show that they are trying to build something for the long term.
Finally, I would say that Degen Chain may become a hugely successful Layer 3 ecosystem in the future, or it may end up as just a trend. But one thing is clear — it has already created a distinct identity among community-focused Web3 projects. And that is a big deal in the current crypto market.
