Apparently the coronavirus did not change unemployment too much on state papers at least !!
Because things are actually very different ...
Unemployment in the 3rd quarter reached 16.2% compared to the previous one which was 16.7% while last year the corresponding third quarter was 16.4%.
The unemployed amounted to 756,424 people, a number that decreased by 1.5% compared to the previous quarter and by 2.7% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Of course all these numbers are funny in relation to reality. Official data are very far away from reality. The unemployed are more, too much.
Coronavirus has closed too many jobs, even temporarily and all those employees are not counted as “officially unemployed”. Some of them get some short of state benefit but it’s not enough.
Most of the state benefit is not larger than 420€ per month, is not given to everyone that has stopped working because of covid and it only counts the months that the government is putting the country on “official lockdown”. In addition, heavily hit industries such as everything related to tourism and food industry are not officially accounted for, creating more “hidden” unemployment.
We have a long history of under-recorder unemployment here, since the economic crisis started. But this now is going completely out of control, sugarcoating facts that have to do with the lives of people.
