So the Leofinance Zealy Campaign ends today. It's been a wonderful journey so far, one that has pushed me to the very edge, mentally, physically and emotionally. If you know me well, then you understand that I love good challenges and this was one hell of a challenge.
I started this contest with an open mind. My goal was to finish in one of the top ten positions and fancy my chances at getting the Hivefest ticket. Many people were aiming for the grand prize but I have had my eyes on the Hivefest ticket. I understand a lot people who joined the campaign do not know about Hivefest, which is fine. However, it would be a badge of honour to attend a hivefest in my lifetime. Anyways, I think I qualify for 3-4 raffle tickets (so wish me luck!).
So my basic overview of the contest is that it was a success. The Leofinance team were able to breathe life into what seemed to be a dying Hive ecosystem. For the first time in months, people were excited about something. Maybe the OGs weren't (because most of them live in Lala-land) but this contest was good for the community and the people using this blockchain daily.
The Leofinance team were also able to capitalise on the hype of the campaign to launch their long-awaited project--leo Threads. It has been a success and will continue to be a success even after the contest. I know most of the airdrop or zealy task hunters would leave. They've paid their part and we thank God for their time and support. However, I think the Team should consolidate its win. I have a few observations during this contest about the hive ecosystem which should change.
Moving forward I think we need to see more collaboration between dapps and communities. There is an unhealthy rivalry that exists amongst these communities and founders which isn't good for the ecosystem. Hive in general is in a very fragile state, and we need to see some level of synergy amongst dapps. Kudos to the likes of 3speak for supporting the contest. Dan and his team are very clear about what they want to achieve with Hive and 3speak. I know I will be keying into that after this contest. I want to support them in my little way.
Now going back to the contest. I want to briefly discuss its impact. On-chain it did relatively well. Although I was expecting more numbers of participants. I was particularly disappointed with certain Leo stakeholders who never showed support for the contest and the new platforms. I guess they are stuck in their old ways but nobody cares about that. Leo thread is here to stay and we are moving the projects towards being a merit-based platform, and I am glad Khal didn't give in to the pressure from many. He knows where he wants to take the community and I 100% support his vision.
What did I dislike about the contest? In retrospect, I think some of the things that pissed me off like the cheating and spamming are less troubling since I am no longer in a combative or competitive mode. There are bad actors and losers everywhere, even in good projects, and it all depends on perspective, we might fall into this category in some people's books as well.
Also, I think the review team would have been more strict with their guidelines. The influencer and the threading task messed up the dynamics of the contest and give a few undeserving persons leverage. The social media tasks did not have very much impact. Also, referrals should have played a more important role in determining the winner of this contest. It would have made things 10x but it would bring new eyeballs to our community
However, we were prepared for a huge influx of people. We could barely get the website running at some point and there is still the case of scaling. I don't think the platform can handle 2,000 active users based on the outcome of the stress test. There is still a lot of scaling to do but we don't have to worry about that now, we just have to prepare for it gradually as the community grows.
Lastly, the campaign should continue on some scale to keep users active. We also need to focus on getting more hive communities to use threads and we have to incentivise that in some way and believe Zealy can play an important role in helping us achieve this goal.
That would be all for now. I awake my 2nd or third place prize (4th or 5th depending on other contenders). I have given my best and it is time to move on. I need to figure out a lot of things since I am making another career shift. Cheers!
