A builder's story from Ghana
People laugh at me.
Not in a cruel way. More like a pat on the head. "Ah, you and your crypto. Is that even real?"
Some smile and change the subject. Some shake their heads like I'm a child playing a dangerous game. Some say nothing, but their eyes say everything.
At first, it ate at me.
I wondered: Am I wasting my time? Am I chasing shadows?
🗣️ What They Say
"Crypto is a scam."
"Only rich people make money from that."
"You're going to lose everything."
"Why don't you focus on something real?"
And the classic:
"When will you withdraw your money? Or is it just numbers on a screen?"
They’re not evil. They’ve just heard the horror stories. They’ve seen people lose. They’ve never seen anyone — anyone they know — actually win.
So they laugh. It’s easier.
😔 What I Used to Do
I tried to convince them.
I’d pull up my Hive wallet. "See? This is real."
I’d explain curation rewards. "When I vote, I earn."
I’d talk about Bitcoin surviving 15 years of obituaries.
Nothing worked.
You cannot light a fire with wet wood. You cannot convince someone who is not ready to see.
🔄 What Changed
I stopped explaining myself.
I realized their laughter wasn’t about me. It was about their fear. Their discomfort with the unknown. The safety of staying inside what everyone already believes.
If crypto succeeds, they’ll feel left behind. Laughing now is how they protect their ego from that future feeling.
That’s not my burden to carry.
My only question is: Am I building something real?
And I am.
🌍 From Ghana, With Patience
We have a saying here: "The chicken that walks slowly reaches the market."
I’m walking slowly.
⚡ Powering up Hive when I can.
₿ Stacking sats.
📚 Making mistakes.
❓ Asking questions.
🌱 Learning.
I don’t need a crowd. I just need to keep showing up.
One day, the same mouths that laughed will ask: "How did you do it?"
And I’ll smile and say: "I kept building while you were laughing."
🐝 Why Hive?
This is where I build.
Hive lets me earn from my content without waiting for anyone's permission. No bank. No boss. No gatekeeper telling me my voice isn't worth anything.
When I power up HIVE, I'm not just saving money. I'm buying influence in a community that actually pays attention.
My wallet is real. My rewards are real. My growth is slow — but it's mine.
🙏 To Anyone Being Laughed At
If people mock you for building something they don’t understand — don't stop.
They laughed at the ones who bought Bitcoin at $1.
They laughed at the ones who said the internet would change everything.
They laughed at the first people who believed in Hive.
Laughter is not proof that you’re wrong.
Sometimes, it’s proof that you’re early.
Let them laugh.
Keep building.
