I was able to eavesdropped into a conversation between a wealthy businessman and a customer care assistant from one of the Nigeria banks that I bank with. I was next in seat to the wealthy man. You could easily recognize a wealthy men if you see them here in Nigeria with merely the way they talk and the way they dress. The attendant was a female attendant to be precised and the businessman was asking the attendant that, "Kike! For how long have you been working in this organization?" And with smile on her face knowingfully well what the man was driving at. She said 12 years now, since days when Polaris bank was still Skybank. The man was like "Wow,you should have left this place and develop yourself and you will see it worths it". Don't you see Tunde who's now in Lagos owning a big restaurant. The Lady was "Oga" it's not easy.
That's where I stopped to give the conversation an attention because someone beside me was asking questions which I needed to fully help her to attend to. Later, I related that to self-development, trying to figure out what co-exist between the private business organization and their employees. I am not here to castigate because they have helped a lot to create opportunities every now and then but what impact do they have on their employees in the long run? It's a matter of choice and how you intend to develop yourself even while you are working in these organizations.
I see all these private business organization as a stepping stone for anybody who wanted to develop himself or herself but need capital go start with. Like myself, right from time I never for once saw myself as someone who will work under someone, even if I am going to do that it's not going to be for long time. Just like when I finished my Bachelor's degree, I got a job offer at a bank in Lagos State but rejected it. Firstly, I hate banking job because because it's a kind of job that stand in your way to develop yourself. Secondly I don't like Lagos State because of its stress, I have lived there for like 4 days and since I knew Lagos isn't meant for me.
Like I have said, I am not trying to denigrate private business organization but even if at all one wants to work in such organization, it shouldn't be on life employment goal because no one can trust these organizations with their pattern of hiring and firing. So it's not secure. One can just see it as a stepping stone, when one must gathered to some capital to some extent. You may just decide to start your own business. In case, if anything happens, one will have what to fall back to because some private owned business lack job security.
