So BrightID is a new verification system for crypto spaces where it's anonymous, in that you don't have to input your legal name and photo ID, but it proves to the applications that you aren't a bot and only have one account. I discovered it today because I got an email from Manna - as in, Mannabase - that Manna 2.0 has launched, with instructions on how to recover your Manna coins from Manna 1.0. Included in those instructions was that you had to set up a BrightID.
(Just a snip of the logo from their website so y'all know what project I'm talking about!)
Getting verified with them entailed joining a Zoom call and waving at the moderator when he called your name so you could connect with him as "just met" and he verifies that you're a human who he's seen (ergo, if your video isn't working you can't verify). They call these "connection parties."
But for account recovery, you want to connect with three people who knew you already. I haven't done this yet as I'm just setting up, so I think that it's just a "more trustworthy" type of connection verifying that you are one person who they already knew, and not someone trying to game the system and make multiple accounts; and not that they send your account recovery link to those people or anything (if I discover I'm wrong on that, I'll update). So, hook up with a few of your crypto friends!
I think this is a pretty cool idea, as it's still a decentralized system, it's not reliant on government IDs, and anyone leery of KYC systems like that or just the potentiality of places that require such being hacked and your ID info being leaked, can rest easy on that score.
Have y'all set up a BrightID? What did you think?
