The world is ruled and run by people (a minority) who don't care about the masses. And no, I am not talking here about the eternal debate between communists and capitalists, nor between rich and poor; what I'm really talking about here is those in power and how low and miserable they can become in order to preserve their own interests.
It is about economy and finance without a doubt
Yes, it also has to do with the economic factor, but that is where everything always lies, right? Everything in the world works on the basis of money. Think for a second about anything you can think of (and don't like how it's currently working), and you'll realize that everything is driven by money. Governments know that controlling money is the basis for controlling everything, which is why they always regulate everything that is money and anything that can function as such.
And it is precisely for this reason that cryptocurrencies are a problem from the perspective and limited vision of many rulers of nations. They cannot like something that simply goes against the control that they have exercised and want to continue exercising forever over the masses.

Because, whoever has the money decides what the masses eat, drink, say, listen to, think, etc. So how to risk losing something so valuable. It is there where we see that cryptocurrencies threaten the prevailing status quo.
Control to issue, control to tax
In addition, there is the taxes factor, which means that if governments don't know how much money is circulating, and they don't know who has it and what they spend it on, they simply can't tax it.
And many believe that taxes are necessary for nations, which I don't think is the case, but regardless of whether it is true or not, it does not justify governments going against cryptocurrencies simply for financial, economic and mental freedom that it provides to those of us who use it.
But it will be useless for governments, any measure they can try, to control or ban cryptocurrency, because it is a phenomenon that is beyond them and because they cannot (no matter how hard they try) oppose progress and they will not.
Most governments are parasitic entities
Most of the world's governments (not to generalize and include them all) are parasitic entities, accustomed to living on public income and managing the funds they obtain by excessively pecking at those who produce the most money in nations; to entrepreneurs.
It is like a punishment for those who produce more; but it is understandable; since you cannot put more taxes to someone who simply cannot pay them, that is virtually impossible. That's why people who produces more, is alway going to pay more for taxes.
In any case, to believe that political rulers do everything they do in search of the true welfare of nations, is naive to say the least. Because they seek the same thing as parasites, to stay alive, and to keep the environment in which they develop and live minimally alive and functional.
Cryptocurrencies are an escape from what those ruling minorities intend to impose forever, they are an escape from controls, taxes, limitations, and ignorance about the economic factors that drive the economy of nations. This is so, no matter how like it or dislike it to some people to admit it. You have to always remember it.
