I just realised that almost quarter of the people running into domain names don’t really care about their use, they just care about the potential airdrop that might come with it. Since ENS domain holders got the ENS airdrop for having an ENS domain name, lots of people have been investing on domain names, wether they need it or not. I was about criticising the act then I remembered that I am also hunting for airdrops through domain name also, and because of that, I became interested in domain names and their uses.
You see, the work of airdrops is to bring people’s attention to a particular project. The ENS airdrop brought attention to the domain name ecosystem and people started getting them, regardless of their reasons for getting the domain the main point is people got them and while they got them, they ended up realising the value of domain names. Domain names help people remember their crypto wallet addresses without the unnecessary gibberish characters, and it gives you the opportunity to choose what name you want and gives you an ownership of that domain. Thereby giving you a Web 3.0 digital identity.
Airdrop gets people’s attention faster, here I am investing in domain names because I am hunting for airdrops but at the same time I am learning the importance of domain names. There are lots of domain names out there, getting an ENS domain is on my list but for now I am focused on getting domain names that will get me airdrop. Currently, there are some domain names that have made their access extremely limited and hard to get, one of them is the lens profile and the Arbitrum domain name. ENS on the Ethereum Chain, Unstoppable Domain Name on the polygon chain, Stacks Domain on the Bitcoin Chain, optimism domain is cooking, Arbitrum domain name just launched today but only for the allowlist members.
I’m on the Arbitrum Domain Name allowlist, i will be getting my domain name soon. Arbitrum token is rumored to launch soon, criteria for the airdrop is unknown, so I feel getting the domain name could give me an edge. I have tried reading the roadmap to know if there is an airdrop possibility, but they don’t have a roadmap. So it’s a risk, but then, lots of platforms are beginning to make domain names a priority before accessing some features. Most times they collaborate with these domain names to give some prizes or give away entries.
Domain name is not a do or die affair, get one if you feel you need to, except you are hunting for airdrops like me. But then, understand domain names and their uses before getting them.
