Splinterlands is gearing up for its next gaming innovation - the SplinterShards (SPS) governance token, which is set to give token holders a serious stake deciding the future direction of the game. And the market likes it!
Details and road map are in the this post.
Basically SplinterShards is a DAO system - stake weight in SPS gives holders voting rights over whether or not to accept proposals to change aspects of the Splinterlands game, and beyond.
Any player can make a proposal (I presume this will be similar in format to the current HIve proposal system) and then SPS stakeholders can vote on whether to action said proposal.
According to in the recent AMA, pretty much ANYTHING is on the cards (excuse the pun) for a proposal....
- changing the parameters of existing cards
- distribution of rewards of tokens such as DEC, and SPS
- season length
- aspects of tournaments and brawls.
- Wether to make potions sellable assets
- And even the possibility of detaching SPS from Splinterlands and assigning them to other games.
Basically as I understood it, if it's codeable, it's proposable.
SPS tokens to be airdropped to investors based on their various Splinterlands assets
If you've got cards, land, DEC, packs etc. you will receive an airdrop of SPS tokens based on your holdings. If you want to calculate your drop, has provided this handy spreadsheet so you can calculate...
NB - some of the SPS tokens are going to major investors, so it's not just players with assets who are getting them!
Splinterlands - Funding Sorted, focus now on Player Experience
Something else I learned during the AMA was that Splinterlands have had a major investment from a venture capital firm, I can't remember the name of it offhand, but they only invest in something like 10 out of 1000 small start ups they screen, and the fact that Splinterlands has caught their eye is really encouraging.
As Yabapmatt described it - they've now got considerable funding for the business going forwards and they can just focus on how to improve the player experience.
Final Thoughts
I'm super impressed with the way this game is developing - the amount of money I've got invested in it seems crazy for what are just some digital NFTs, but Splinterlands cards really are the BEST NFTS out there - aesthetically pleasing, usable as game assets, and very tradeable.
And the development pace is intense. I really get the feeling that in terms of price we're just going up from here, and rapidly too.
