Hive is a decentralized social media platform. The Hive like platform needs to excel on “engagement” if it wants to bring in millions of users.
The Web 2 platforms created consumers and content creators and relied on algorithms to make sure users engage with each other. The use of AI and algorithms based on the data shared by users is the power move all web2 platforms utilize for the last 15 years. Facebook started it all and Tiktok is going next level with their “for you” page.
Why Engagement?
Hive currently has roughly 5,000 monthly active users. The success of the Hive blockchain is measured by the number of transactions. How many transactions are there on the chain? This justifies and proves the worth.
If that’s the end goal then what are we doing to make sure we have high transaction numbers. The blogging platform we have has its own limitations. After a certain threshold users cannot interact with each other. Splinterlands is a success due to its ability to create transactions. I was reading a tweet where someone mentioned Splinterlands made more than 1 billion transactions on Hive.
If we need to multiply transactions on Hive, then we need to make sure that there are new users. Engagement is the only tool that will attract new users and retain them on the platform long term.
In that sense, engagement is at the center of everything for Hive. The success and failure of Hive as a social media platform relies on the fact that how engaged the users are.
That’s the “WHY” but what is “HOW”?
Once we know why, then we need to make sure how we increase engagement. There could be many ways to augment engagement but I like to highlight two that I think are key.
A Better Tool
Engagement happens when we have better tools. Giving the right tool to users is equipping them with the right instruments to engage with others. For instance, the new Leofinanance platform - Threads- is a perfect example of handing a better tool to users. The new User Interface released today ad it is aiming to address most of the issues users have been pointing to make sure they can engage efficiently.
The new tool supports twitter like microblogging. The new UI is removing the stigma on Hive that all short form posts are spams. This tool is shifting focus to higher engagement and is willing to cater quality short form content. Not all users are high quality bloggers and they may just want to share the links they read on other platforms. They should be able to do that irrespective of what the rules and guidelines of the blogging platform is.
More Humane Approach
The life of any social platform is its users. Like the engagement, the platform should be able to exude emotion out of users. Looking at blog posts after blog posts without any sign of who wrote the article is mundane. Leofinance has great users and they interact with each other as well. Till now, that interaction was happening on #discord. The Discord engagement was taking away the limelight from Hive. We could see personalities on Discord. Should we want to make Hive a more humane platform, the daily conversations should happen here. The crypto loss and gain, the option trades, the morning coffees and dogs should come out on the platform. Let’s make Leofinance more humane.
The New Threads UI launch
The humane side of Leofinance is on full display after the launch of a new UI today. The threads home page is full of conversations and chatter about the Leo Power Up Day that is happening tomorrow. The team is doing an amazing job to increase engagement on Hive with power up related prizes when you power up 150 leo and delegations. A new interactive gamification on Leofinance engagement with competitive leaderboards was launched where accounts with 2k Leo Power have access to crew3 quests. We need more of these events to make sure we are engaging and creating transactions on Hive.
As would say, let’s make 10K Threads a day so that we are able to say this is how we engage on Hive.
So post your photos, share your thoughts, share your gains and losses, share your alphas and share what you like and not like.
