The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, made a firm and calming statement amid public concerns regarding the fluctuation of the rupiah exchange rate against the United States (US) dollar. This was conveyed by the President while delivering a speech at the inauguration of the Mrs. Marsinah Museum and Shelter in Nglundo Village, Sukomoro District, Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday (May 16, 2026).
In a video clip of the speech that circulated widely on social media, the Head of State asked the public not to panic excessively in response to global economic issues that said Indonesia would face a crisis or collapse.
"In a moment, Indonesia will collapse, there will be chaos, what will happen, right? The rupiah is like this, the dollar is like this. People... people in the village don't use dollars, right?" said President Prabowo in front of the audience.
Furthermore, President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia's domestic foundations are currently in a strong and stable condition. He guaranteed that the basic needs of the people, especially the national food and energy sectors, remain well maintained amid the global panic.
"Food is safe, energy is safe! Yes, many countries are panicking, but Indonesia is still okay. We have... a lot given by the Almighty," he emphasized, which was immediately greeted by thunderous applause from the guests.
