R22 Million Glow in the Dark Flag!!
A R22 million glow in the dark flagpole, this is what the government of South Africa wants to erect!! This flag will be 100m high!! It is the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture that plans to build this monumental flag, they say it is to promote the flag and our heritage!!
Further to this our country wants to donate R50 million in aid to Cuba.
Both these two initiatives sparked a lot of controversy here in South Africa!!
In the previous month some of our provinces had disastrous floods, which wiped out a lot of infrastructure, including people's homes.
Our country also does not have enough electricity and we have daily rotational power cuts to ensure that the entire system does not collapse. (At least the Glow in the Dark Flag will give some much needed light) LOL
Our roads are riddled with potholes, and there are 100's of memes doing the rounds on this subject.

We sit with a high unemployment rate, with the official unemployment rate on 35,3%!! This leads to a lot of crime!!
I can go on for long about things that urgently needs attention here, like schools and hospitals as well.
With this as backdrop I wonder why politicians would like to spend money on projects as indicated at the top?? Are they just out of touch with reality, or do they just not care about the needs of the people??
The money to be spent on the two examples given, can surely be used better, to create jobs, provide new infrastructure, or just maintain the current infrastructure, to name but a few.
To me charity begins at home and the government should look after our country first, before giving to other countries. I also feel that a monumental flag is a nice to have, that one can build, if all the basic needs are catered for.
The hard working tax payers don't get value for their hard earned money.
I was rambling on a lot, but what are your feeling on the type of spending I mentioned in a country where basic services are not good, and deteriorating day by day.
I hope you enjoyed the post and that you have a wonderful day!
