The Benefits Of Hive
I'm currently sitting at table 8, of my favourite Vietnamese restaurant, the Pho Linh.
In front of me is a half empty bottle of Pepsi Max and a plate of deep fried chicken wings and some spicy dipping sauce.
I'm procrastinating out of fear because in a few short hours I will be on stage hopefully making people laugh at the Cranker Comedy night at the Crown and Anchor Hotel.
I am woefully under prepared, but thankfully I have time to rehearse a little something, and I can build on what I did last time to hopefully have the audience in stitches.
The hard part is always memorising a set list.
The rest is delivery.
The key is to be relaxed and enjoy the night.
To quote Wheezy Waiter is his latest YouTube video: Plan and Show Up.
I need a night out of laughter and to also know that I can make people laugh.
See, I'd been working at a call centre for the last few months. Every day for the last month or so I had been having anxiety attacks, even on weekends.
While I needed the consistent income, my health had to come first, so I quit the job a week ago.
My health has improved a lot since then too.
How Hive Helps
While the humble earnings from my blog posts on the Hive block-chain do not pay my rent, the fact that there's at least some random reward attached to my activity does help somewhat.
In times of financial hardship or stress, I know that I can at least channel my thoughts here and at least contribute something to the greater good.
It's always my hope that I can provide a different perspective on life, it's not always a positive experience and it how we adapt and pivot in circumstances that make the difference.
It also warms my heart knowing that there are various humanitarian projects supplying drinking water and food relief in various African communities, for example. My upvotes to those posts, while only being worth a few cents, do indeed add up and get things done.
The Ecency app allows me to create posts, and most importantly save drafts, while I am on my phone whether walking, on a train or like now in a restaurant.
It helps to soothe any anxiety as I can then marshal my thoughts into something cohesive and legible and overcome boredom at the same time.
The passive income can be held in my Hive wallet or invested elsewhere in case of financial emergencies.
Then there are the various community groups, all with different levels of experience about whatever topic I choose to look into.
Art, photography, gardening, finance, etc.
Then there are friendships that form from sharing a common experience or point of view (I do disagree with a lot the viewpoints here on Hive but I don't think I am alone in that).
Mostly, I think there's a peace of mind and a sense of hope for something greater. It allows me to put my health first and leave a toxic job if necessary.
Anyway, I have to write a set list, get to the gig and do my best. Wish me luck!
Thank you for reading.
