"Voulez-Vous Coucher Avec Moi Ce Soir?"
- This phrase, which means:
"Do you want to sleep (make love) with me tonight?"
- I learned this phrase from a popular song by the musical group Pattie LaBelle in a song Lady Marmalade while I was very young, and thought it was so cool!
- It is not correct, but sounds correct to those who don’t speak French!
- I thought of it when I was having a conversation with a friend about the confusion over FTX being a DEX, as in decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, instead of a CEX, as in centralized cryptocurrency exchange.
- I was annoyed because the idea of calling FTX a decentralized finance exchange or a DEX is wrong, because FTX is a CEX, and this suggests DEXs are not transparent when in fact it is FTX is the opposite of a DEX in most ways.
- So if you only know how to say crypto words, it sounds correct, but the actual truth is the opposite, so wrong and annoying when so called experts say this!.
So why does this make me think of the Pattie LaBelle song?
- Because the distinctions between FTX and a DEX, are like this song's use of Vous instead of Tu. These pronouns mean the opposite things, so using Vous is wrong and it means the opposite of the intention.
- While to the uneducated or uninformed it may seem a nuanced or suttle distinction that makes FTX a CEX, and not a DEX.
- But to the person with a basic understanding of cryptocurrency, it is very inappropriate to equate FTX with the word DEX, just like in this French phrase.
First: The French Phrase "Voulez-Vous Coucher Avec Moi Ce Soir?" ..
- In French the pronoun Vous is Formal, you use it for strangers or dignitaries. While the pronoun Tu is Familiar, you use it for friends and intimates.
- So Tu would be used when speaking to your friends and certainly to your intimates.
- You would not say I love You in French using Vous, because vous is formal, not intimate, so it’s silly, and the opposite of your intention.
- And you would not say voulez-vous to someone you want to be have sex with for the same reason: intimacy is familiar! LOL 😂
- So you see how to a French person this is funny and almost ridiculous mistake.
- They might just laugh in your face.
- It's almost like telling a woman: I really like that dress because it makes you look fat.
Second the calling FTX a DEX instead of a CEX.
- At this point I think you can see where I am going with this.
- A DEX or decentralized exchange is the opposite of a CEX or centralized exchange.
- Saying that the FTX disaster is evidence for cryptocurrency DEXs being dangerous due to it's lack of transparency and it's lack of security, is like telling a woman in a bikini that she is wearing to many clothes.
- It suggests your blind or don't know what the words actually mean.
- You are associating the words with their exact opposite meaning.
- FTX was the exact opposite of what cryptocurrency was about; not transparent and not secure.
- And thats why I associated FTX with
“Voulez-vous couche Ce sour”
it's the opposite of what your trying to convey. - It's wrong and annoying because it's the opposite.
So now you won't be able to get that phrase out iof your mind:
- "Voulez-Vous Coucher Avec Moi Ce Soir?"
"Do you want to sleep (make love) with me tonight?"
- And now possibly the music will also play in your head when ever you think of FTX and SBF! LOL!
