The Silver Koala is Australian's second-oldest silver bullion collection. The Perth Mint released it in 2007, making it the second of its kind after the Australian Silver Kookaburra. A new reverse of the Silver Koala is portrayed every year.

The reverse of the 2023 1 oz Silver Koala Coins features a mother koala and her young joey. The mother clings to the stem of a gum tree while her newborn joey hangs from her back in this design.

For the final time in this series, Elizabeth II's effigy appears on the obverse of 2023 Australian Silver Koala Coins. Jody Clark drew this right-profile effigy for the Royal Mint in 2015, making it the sixth-generation design to appear on Australian coins.
