started a Santa’s wish list for stackers. Like him and those who want to join in on this fun article series, I shall be posting a bar, round, or coin a day for 12 days that I would love to get as a gift.
For my 12 Days of Christmas Day 2, the second item on my list is the U.S. coin pictured below!
Pilgrim Tercentenary Half Dollar Coin
1920 Pilgrim Tercentenary Half Dollar MS-64
The Pilgrims' landing at Plymouth Rock was commemorated on its 300th anniversary in 1920.
Following their departure from the Mayflower on December 26, 1620, the Pilgrim Fathers set foot on Plymouth Rock, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean at Plymouth, Massachusetts, which would later become the colony of New Plymouth, the first permanent European settlement in New England.
The ship depicted on this coin is the MAYFLOWER.
The Mayflower is the ship that has captivated the American imagination the most in history. After transporting 102 English pilgrims over the Atlantic, the ship made landfall in Plymouth, Massachusetts, which is situated on the shores of Cape Cod Bay. Following their arrival, the Pilgrims had to contend with weather, a sickness epidemic, and managing their relationships with neighboring native tribes. Simply put, they needed to keep going.
Do you know that four years ago, this was on my Christmas list? At that time, the price of the Pilgrim Tercentenary Half Dollar in 1920 and 1921 was $119.99 and $199.99, respectively.
And today, the ongoing price for the BU versions of these coins is $174.99 and $239.99.
But, I would not buy them unless they were given to me, lol! So it remains on my Christmas list, and perhaps... forever!
Maybe there is something there that may not be BU.
I'll take it, lol!
Until tomorrow, stackers and Hive friends.
