One of my New Year 2020 goals is to bring you along my journey to complete ONE tube of fractional gold coins.
I started the year adding a 6 gram Mene 24K Gold Cross to my 24K gold and platinum bracelet of charms.
I just received my first order of fractional gold coin!
2020 Australian Gold Kookaburra $15
1 oz. 99.99% Gold, Perth MintThe 2020 issue of Australian Kookaburra coins represents the 30th anniversary of one of the Perth Mints longest-running series. The silver and gold coins for the 2020 year have special nods to the 1990 debut of the collection, and in the case of the gold coins it is first-time issues.
- 1st time the Perth Mint has ever issued a 1/10 oz Gold Kookaburra!
- Limited mintage of only 15,000 coins
- Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition.
- The face value of $15 (AUD) is fully backed by the Australian government.
- The reverse includes the original 1990 design of the kookaburra.
- On the obverse of the coin is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
- A kookaburra sits on the trunk of a fallen tree in the reverse design.
Reverse
The 1990 design created by Stuart Devlin that launched the Australian Kookaburra series is featured on the reverse of these 2020 Australian Kookaburra 1/10 oz Gold Coins. In this design, a lone kookaburra sits amidst the foliage perched on the stump of a fallen tree. Inscriptions on this side include a dual date mark of 1990 and 2020, as well as Australian Kookaburra, 1/10 oz 9999 Gold, and the P mintmark of the Perth Mint.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the obverse of 2020 Australian Kookaburra 1/10 oz Gold Coins. Here, the Queen is featured in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem crown, earrings, and the Victorian coronation necklace. For the first time since 1966, an Australian coin portrait of Her Majesty includes her neckline and shoulders. Inscriptions include Elizabeth II, Australia, and 15 Dollars.
To prepare to put the gold on the tube, I transferred the gold coin into an airtite capsule that is the same diameter as the capsule tube. This is what I have done for all the other fractional gold coins that I have.
And now it is ready to be kept inside this unassuming wooden box!
The other tube is to hold the empty airtites and for visualization purposes.
