2023 March Update: Life as a Bronze/Silver player in Splinterlands
- Started in Oct 2021
- Half a bronze deck / Playing in Silver league.
- Airdrops did not mean much when I had 2000 CP. Only 100 SPS by June 2022.
- Guild Brawls --> Quora. SPS.
- Giveaways. Free is Free!
- 45K CP today. Grind at my own Pace.
Background
I started in Oct 2021 playing with mostly the starter cards. It took me a long time to get used to it. While onboarding via PayPal was easy, I struggled with the game and the HIVE ecosystem. I only purchased 5 Chaos Legion packs (in Jan 2022?) initially and was trying to play using very few assets. I was in NOVICE for a long time, and it was short-lived when I got into Bronze.
That is because the EoS (end-of-season) reset either put by back to the "0" Level or "100" rating. Today they fixed that "novice trap," as you can't return to NOVICE.
By the end of the airdrops, I only had 100 SPS staked and maybe a deck between 2K-5K CP.
Account Boost
As I was watching Luke's YouTube videos geared toward smaller account players, I realized I needed to connect with the community. Doing this on my own was not working well. I needed help. I needed to learn what to do.
I started to watch different YouTubers. I think in the course of 4 or 5 weeks, I was able to pull some Chaos Legion Legendary Cards from the Daily/EoS chest. And I won my first FREE cards from YouTuber Streamer!! I was so excited I posted that on Twitter.
Progress via Guild's Brawls (Oct 2022)
I also found a guild that lets smaller players join them. We were a TIER 1 guild, and I was happy to get a few SPS. Fast forward a few months, and we were in TIER 2, earning rewards ranging from 15-22 SPS per each Brawl. I started to collect Gold Foil to be used for Bronze GF Fray. That has worked out well, even for the small player. I don't BUY the most OP or expensive cards, but rather I started with the most affordable GF cards (GF Commons and GF reward cards).
Gladius Cards was just a nice bonus! I was LUCKY, and I pulled a Quora. This was so valuable in a TIER 1 GUILD brawl, as many of my opponents will have a hard time dealing with the bloodlust of Quora.
Progress via FOMO Feb and Monster March (Feb/March 2023)
I never used Twitch, but when FOMO Feb Giveaway started, I started watching SPLINTERLANDS-TV. I learned so much from watching and learning from many of the streamers. I used the chat to ask questions. In Feb, I won about $50 worth of cards.
The giveaways in March gave me many commons, with a few Gold Foil Commons. While I did not win anything more than $14 worth of value, each card is so valuable for a small player's account with 35K CP. There are still a few days left, and any card is better than not getting one. I have learned that some streamers give away from their personal card collection, and I would try to watch those streams to improve the odds of winning!!
Progress via Soul Bound Rewards (Feb 2023)
The release of the new Soul Bound reward cards has been awesome for a bronze deck holder. This means even a 1 BCX card can be played and add value in the right ruleset. This, combined with the QUORA that I have, gives me more options to win. As I moved up to Silver League, I noticed my cards were under-power, and I needed to focus on deck leveling. I need more soul-bound cards so I can level them up. This will happen over time. Each of us has a different journey. While my story is a slow-moving one, it is still growing. From a 2K CP deck to nearly 45K CP today, I am happy to grind at my own pace.
Final Words of wisdom
- You don't need every card.
- You don't need every splinter.
- Small Account holders can still have a positive experience.
- Natural Cycles. 4 Year Bitcoin cycle should similarly impact SPL.
- Lucky Pulls do happen. It might be you next.
