Almost four days have past since the deadly earthquake hit both Turkey and Syria. Up until now we are looking at a 24 million people getting affected of those 70 thousand people getting injured 320 thousand people without losing their homes and the staggering 20 thousand people dying so far. That was probably one of the deadliest earthquakes- natural disasters hitting the two countries.
In the midst of those disaster and while all eyes on the inside and the outside of turkey some concerning news are slowly starting to get out. The news are about the Turkish national election that are going to be held at May 2023, A Turkish official said the disaster posed "very serious difficulties" for the holding of an election scheduled for May 14 in which President Tayyip Erdogan has been expected to face his toughest challenge in two decades in power.
With anger simmering over delays in the delivery of aid and getting the rescue effort underway, the disaster is likely to play into the vote if it goes ahead.
Whatever the political fallout from the disaster, the logistical challenge of holding elections in the affected areas are immense. The region affected by the quakes is home to some 13 million people, and hundreds of thousands need shelter after their buildings were destroyed or rendered unsafe.
While it is an extremely early for that kind of talks when the whole nation is hurting and I am sure almost no one is even thinking about election or governments and politics I find it very alarming for a officials even answering this kind of question.
I hope the death toll stops and from here on out those affected get to see a glimpse of hope!
