Let's look at token #2 from Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. This one is super shiny and features the hotel tower and the palms from the pool area.
When I worked here I worked mostly as a cook in the banquet kitchen and, at times, I was at the banquet carving some large piece of meat or making pasta to order for the attendees.
With almost 2 million square feet of banquet space we got some LARGE groups from companies with LOTS of money to burn and sometimes these companies would higher some a-list entertainment.
One particular party where I was carving meat was being held out at the pool. Yes, they rented THE WHOLE POOL AREA for their party. The view of the building on this token was pretty much my view from my job that evening and let me tell you what I saw.
To my right was a stage with a bird act but this was not you regular bird act. The guy on the stage was facing the building, as I was, and the crowd in front of him was facing the stage (so, backs to the building). The bird-guy talked about hawks for a second and then he instructed the crowd to turn and look up to the top left corner of the building.
It was dusk and I believe there was a spotlight on the bird. The guy stressed that everyone keep there eyes on the bird then he blew his bird whistle and what happened next was just amazing.
The bird dove off the roof, DOVE off the roof, into a free fall. Now when I say free fall I mean head down, wings still folded into its body, straight down FREE FALL!!
As it got close to the ground the guy blew his whistle again, the bird opened its wings, swooped from a vertical fall to a horizontal glide, glided over the crowd less than 5 feet from their heads and landed on the bird-guy's arm.
It was awesome! I'm getting the chills as I play it back in my head to write it down.
These tokens have a tasty 0.60ozt silver center surrounded by a ring of brass. When I take them out of the airtite to photograph them I can hear the center piece rattle around inside that brass.
All the tokens I will be showing are a $10 value at the casino cage but they sell for well over $20 on the open market. I wonder if folks actually cashed these in for a crisp 10 dollar bill at the casino?
