Hello Hello Lions
Are you a What If person, or one who has regrets?
I am not, what is done is done. I am spontaneous and take what I want to a large degree.
I have been fortunate to have owned more than one business in my time.
Interestingly they are all so completely different, and I think it's a testament to how easily I get bored, or as Mrs T says how fluffing ridiculously spontaneous I am.
My background is originally in the Oil and Gas Industry as firstly a Chemical Engineer (Process Engineer) then Project Engineer and on the way Chemical and Project Manager and many things in between.
After University I took a job in the south of England with a small company. It was as a Process Engineer (although I had tried unsuccessfully to be hired as a trader in the City of London!).
After a year I had changed from being a Process Engineer to Overseas Application Engineer, i.e instead of Designing equipment to process the oil and gas, I was now selling the equipment packages to overseas countries. It came me an overview of the Whole Business not just one small element. Yes, this is where I started on my journey of working/visiting 69 countries.
It taught me many things as I saw a business from different angles. I was a permanent employee of that company.
I then ended up getting a call from a total nutter who was Scottish and worked with me in that company. That was how I got to Africa. He lived near Dundee and we would drive up through the night to Scotland. This was before speed cameras really worked and he would clock 115 mph ... nutter like I said!
This time I was on a fixed contract, with no safety net of being a permanent employee. In fact you had no safety net, if they wanted you gone, you were gone end of fluffing story.
This then led to me setting up a limited company which was my first corporation and I became a director.
All of sudden, I was learning about VAT, income tax, pensions, national insurance, and insurance and liability policies, health & safety, death benefits, life insurance etc etc.
I mean what the royal fluff, it was never ending. This was perceived to me being dead money. Here I was doing all this stuff and not bringing in any money to the company.
I soon changed my tune, it was not dead money, in fact you could save money by being smart and learning the loopholes rules of the game.
Fluff me, now it is a piece of piss compared to what it was back then.
We can find anything online now. Kids of today, you have no idea how easy you have got it.
Different Industries
When we were in The States and before I got my green card, I would do house and building inspections under Mrs T's name, well I would use the same first initial.
So we set up a company for that, and learnt more redtape!Back in the UK, we lived in Edinburgh and Mrs T being a qualified hairdresser had her own salon. Fluff me what a bunch those employees were! Never again will I have employees!
In Spain we had a holiday and holiday equipment rental business, and yes the word mañana I learnt all about that!
All totally different and all different skills that you pick up along the way.
Living in the Now
One of my favourite expressions is living in the now. Animals do it. Have you seen a dog eat, it will eat like there is no tomorrow. That is because they don't know where their next meal will come from.
My Now is Mrs T toying with doing more and more of her hobby and maybe turning it into a business.
I actually made this post Oh fluff I am a yarnaholic too! last week and Mrs T loved the wonderful comments that so many Hivians left and she literally said ...
Fluff it, I want to set up Mrs T & friends
I always say that if you enjoy something, then you are more likely to keep doing it and ultimately succeed.
Mrs T can crochet and knit. She is also a confident public speaker.
She worked at Amazon and would do the induction talks at Christmas time to up to 100 people.
She is also a qualified EFL teacher.
In other words, she can explain things verbally.
Were you like us, and during the COVID lockdowns did you watch a heap of YouTube content creators?
Well we still do, and Mrs T thinks with the help of me, she can do a better job than some of them.
I researched what works and how to maximise profits. You know the score Work Smarter Not Harder.
Patterns, people go mental for patterns.
If you can design something that goes viral, you sell a fluff load of patterns!
Additionally tutorials, video tutorials are a huge hit and boost your views and subscribers.
So Mrs T & friends would be based on Social Media and right now the way to interact with the masses is via Web 2 apps.
You know the ones I am meaning.
However for the niche market which is the Yarn Community there are only 3 which rule and in reality only 2 that are a must.
The musts are You Tube and Insta
To a lesser extent Facebook is used and Tik-Tok and rarely Twitter
I can hear all the tuttuts emanating from your mouths!
Web3 and in particular Hive have 3speak blogs etc, but all in time and one fear Mrs T has is this ...
When you join new sites, you out of habit put a welcome post out which is basically copied and pasted with all your information.
She sees Hive and knows people would think Hive blog, PeakD, ecency and LeoFinance etc are all different and then post a duplicate post and basically get nuked by HiveWatchers before she starts!
When creating a new business you need Research
You know our crypto term DYOR well you need to do it over and over again when making a business plan.
What is the USP?
We have identified a couple, one of them being the fact she is American but been here on and off for years. She is aware of the terminology here and there. Trust me in the Yarn world there are big differences..
DK weight anyone? Or #3 light or 8 ply? Depending where you are you will know what one is but not the others. It can be confusing.
So people writing patterns often screw them up.
We have that sorted, also have some test knitters lined up.
Because you have to test test and test some more before you release things into Production!
This is a business which is about to be launched. I am getting things sorted.
We shall keep you posted!
