I don't think anyone likes a trip to the dentist. I know that is sure is one of my least favorite activities personally. Unfortunately, today's trip was one that was unavoidable. A couple months ago I had a filling come loose and fall out leaving an area of tooth exposed and susceptible to decay and infection. Over the last week it had started to become a little sensitive, so I marched myself over to the dentist to get it repaired.

It's not so much the dental work itself that is all that horrible. Yes, I hate the needles, drills, the poking and prodding like any sane person would. But what I hate most of all is the astronomical cost of getting the work done! Of course, being California, you can't find many dentists who use the silver/mercury amalgam fillings anymore, it's the white composite material to look like a tooth. The downside is it costs a lot more!
Being a silver stacker I asked the dentist how increasing silver prices had affected the price of the silver amalgam. He had no idea since he didn't know anyone who still used it... I imagine it has increased in price significantly, it may now cost more than the new composites!
So after the exam, x-rays, and repair I was out more than $300... Dentists have a serious racket here in the US and make far more than any doctors. So you have a choice, take care of your teeth with proper dental care and go broke. Or let them rot and have them yanked out... Even the latter isn't inexpensive, in the end as the dentists charge a fortune to pull the tooth.
I guess I'll keep my teeth healthy, tooth pain really sucks and I really don't want dentures!
I'm not a big fan of movies that are musicals to be honest. There are some I enjoy that were made back in the early days of film, but many newer ones just bother me. One in particular that drove me nuts was a film called Paint Your Wagon, made in 1969, a western starring legendary tough guys Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin. The movie is really funny, but it's filled with singing, which I have always skipped. Thank goodness for fast forward! I mean really, a western shouldn't be a musical...
What does that have to do with today's theme you are probably asking? My trip today made me think of the movie Little Shop of Horrors made in 1986 starring Rick Moranis. It's pretty good despite the music. In the film there is an evil dentist, played by legendary comedian Steve Martin, who loves inflicting pain. Enter a patient played by Bill Murray, who loves pain, and you get a really funny scene. If you want to see something to make you laugh, you'll love this!
Martin played the dentist just like Elvis Presley, hilarious!
At any rate, I'm glad today's trip to the dentist is over even though I'm now $300 poorer. The cost of dental work here in California has gotten insanely expensive... I hope you all had a better day than did I, and I appreciate all of your support. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and have a great day!
