I posted this short thread earlier today, 'If AI sacks you from your job employ AI to do your job." When I posted it I knew that the majority of people would immediately think I was talking about writing because that's what's first people usually think about when hear about AI, but that really wasn't the message behind it. What I meant is more broader, it's a something we are seeing in real time with many different kinds of job.
If AI is to take on jobs that previously relied on a human presence, then being someone who is unwilling to work with it and simply wants it to go away is arguably the worst place you can be. This is because things very rarely revert back to their original state when a shift this large has already started gaining momentum. Instead, what makes much more sense is learning how to utilize this tool for your own survival because in reality the tool itself isn't the enemy; not knowing how to use it is.
AI is already being used for many things, from writing, automation, web-design and even coding and these aren't minor things, these are job people had worked a lifetime for so it's perfectly understandable why there's panic surrounding it. However at the same time there's also opportunity, you won't just be replaced if you have a way of integrating this tool to aid your role instead.
You don't even need to work fully with it, especially when you are the one with the creativity to use it with, however you can still utilize it to your advantage to make your work easier. For example, if ideas are dried you can always turn to AI for brainstorming or it can help you organize your thoughts and significantly cut down research time.
When it comes to the more technical areas such as coding and web design, you can really see it become even more obvious as instead of doing all this manually you now have something there to help you out, to tell you when something goes wrong, and even speed things up when you are trying to build something. It doesnt make you obsolete but it definitely gives you the advantage if you learn to work with it.
That is why I wrote the thread, because if your career is under threat and your job is in an industry which is already being disrupted by AI then you are not as helpless as you think. In fact you are in a position to be able to take advantage of being able to use these tools and earn a living from them.
The world is moving too quickly, and waiting for everyone else to play catch up is a choice, a choice that many may later regret if they stay on the outside.
The statement, If AI sack you from your job employ AI to do your job, isn't just something to make people laugh but rather to have a change in view about AI. AI can be a benefit if people genuinely make an effort to give it a try and not run from it.
