Everywhere you look on the internet people are talking about artificial intelligence and how fast it's involving and changing the way people engage online. Almost every social media platform has introduced AI features for their users to enhance productivity and streamline their daily tasks.
I visited Facebook today after a long time away and decided to check the old group page I created years ago to see if it was still active and to my surprise people has been posting regularly into the group and new members were added as well. How these happened was something surprising to me until I checked the admin settings and discovered that Facebook now have automated AI moderator feature that manage group activities on behalf of the group admin.
The feature works by checking the history of what kind of posts and members the group admin had approved in the past and then automatically approving or removing posts and members that match those pattern and criteria. It was something like a relief for me to see that the group was still functioning well while I was away, thanks to the AI moderation system. I quickly decided to give it new instructions and criteria that fit the current needs and goal of the group.
There are more interesting things happening with AI in other places that will make you wonder where this AI revolution is heading and what the future holds for us. I read a news today about a company that use AI agent to interview job candidates and access their qualifications in real time without the people being interviewed knowing they were talking with AI. The interview was done in a live video call where the AI agent that looks like a human conducted the interview.
In another news, I read about AI that can actually spend crypto via a credit card to make orders, purchase goods and services and complete transactions without human intervention. The user just need to set the parameters and the agent handles everything. The user generates the virtual credit card on the platform, fund it with crypto and set the parameters for the AI to follow. The user only need to tell it what they want to purchase and the AI will handle the rest by finding the best deal online, and make the purchase.
Whether it's booking of flight, hotel reservations, or ordering pizza from your favorite restaurant, the AI can handle it as long the restaurant has an online ordering system or a platform where people places orders.
Looking at it, I am wondering how things will look like in the next five years when AI will be more integrated into everything we do today. It's not just about people losing jobs to automation but also the potential risks it present for people who might not be able to identify the difference between AI and human interaction in real time scenarios especially for elderly people.
There's also the risk of AI being used for scam and fraud. If an AI can convincingly impersonate a human to conduct an interview on a video call without the recipients knowing, then imagine what it could do in the hands of bad actors trying to deceive venerable people through phone calls and video calls claiming to be trusted family members or representative of a legitimate company or personality.
What do you think about it?
