No better time to start focusing on your health than when you are in your 40's, overweight, and just tired all the time. I watched my dad go down hill fast over just a couple of years and I have vowed that I will not let that be me! So I had Grok help me out with a meal and exercise plan that I can actually stick to!
I went on X and asked Grok to write me a plan based off of what I have to work with, part of that being private land to hike on, what kind of exercise equipment I have, the kind of foods I am focusing on for the homestead, and what I cannot eat and what I like to eat that are healthier foods. So today is rucking day!
Starts with a Hearty Breakfast
Grok has me going with a high protein kind of lifestyle, which I like! My breakfasts every morning are going to consist of 4 eggs and some kind of leafy green or some fruit, or a combination. Along with that, I am changing up my coffee habit and dropping my Cafe Bustelo jet fuel espresso and going with the Ryze mushroom coffee. At least I am giving it a shot and will give a better report at the end of the week after I have had some more time with it.
But I will say that after 2 days, I do not feel near as jittery and really not as fatigued either, so there might be something to this stuff! Again, I'll see more by the end of the week. Now that I am all fueled up, time to get on with the ruck!
What is Rucking?
Well, rucking is simply hiking with gear or weights. Some people do it with backpacks filled with weights, but I am big enough, so I'll just stick with my main gear set, which consists of my tactical vest that I use in place of a day pack. It's just easier to access everything and spreads the weight out evenly.
Yes, I hike with a gun. I live in the woods and we have some bid snakes that are already starting to come out for the spring. That is why I went and made a homestead business purchase the other day after anxiously cutting some really sketchy high grass hoping a snake wouldn't pop out and try to bit me.
Not worried about it now! Went to BassPro Shops and got these boots which seem really comfortable and that's what this ruck is also about, breaking in the new boots!
They are padded with thick padding, leather, and hard nylon material that will help if something like a rattlesnake, cottonmouth, or copperhead come out to try and strike! And thankfully, they are super comfy too! For $240, I would hope so, lol.
Up the Mountain I Go
I am really blessed to have this land in the family where I can just roam free and hike anytime I want with nobody to bother me! It makes for some really peaceful times especially during all the noise that is going on in the markets and all the global tension. So my answer is to shut it out and just get with some nature a few times a week!
Not a bad place to end up! I love this spot where I can just sit an overlook the valley and think, sometimes about nothing at all, which is really nice! Today I was thinking about making this post, and how out of shape I was by the time I got up there, lol.
With it already starting to get hot in my area, I will probably be doing these more in the early morning like right after sunrise. When we get in the depths of summer, I will probably not be rucking as much and sticking to strength training and my row machine along with just the daily homestead farm work that I have to do. Honestly cutting the grass around here will probably take the place of my hikes during the summer, so I hope to get some good ones in before it just gets unbearable as far as temperature and humidity in the southeastern US.
Until next time...
Be cool, be real, and always abide with you my dudes!
